Lookin' Ahead to the Future

Believe it or not, I believe that I will be able to apply a lot of my new knowledge to my future career. My goal, as of right now, is to work in the Marketing/Advertising/Sales side of a sports organization. If this goal is accomplished, I believe that my knowledge from this course will be used frequently. Some of the concepts that revolve around sensation and perception could be used in my advertising/marketing campaigns. It is nice to have some knowledge as to what people see or hear in an advertisement and how they are going to respond to it. I could also apply the concepts of classical conditioning to my career. Classical conditioning would allow me to to associate one of my products or teams with a highly enjoyable stimulus. There a lot of other smaller concepts, theories, etc. that can be applied to the field that I am going in to; however, I feel like sensation, perception, and classical conditioning will be of the most importance. Overall, the knowledge gained from the course will help me significantly no matter what route I decide to take in my life.

As someone that is going into marketing, I agree with what you have said. Nothing will help more than knowing who to appeal to and how to do it. By knowing how people tick is a great cheat on how to be more successful on how to appeal to them.

I know how you feel, while I myself am going into education I think many of the things I have learned in class will be extremely helpful. Not only do I better understand how people think but it will also hopefully help get students to do their work and understand. Classical conditioning is going to work great.

I agree with you in the light that psychology can play a huge role in marketing and advertising, but have you ever considered any moral boundaries in exploiting these theories in aims of profit? Association of strong stimuli with a product is indeed very effective, the most common of which seemingly have roots in sexual motivation. Have you ever considered the negative effects of these conditionings, such as unrealistic perception of the desirable item, or perhaps in the condition itself? With conditioning comes desensitization to the stimuli, could this impact the power of these desires in real life?
