Another FSoS prof's work has been featured on the University of Minnesota's new podcast feature, University of Minnesota Moment:
Bill Doherty, a leading U.S. expert on family time and a university professor in family social science, is taking the lead on calling for parents to reclaim family time from youth sports. In one case, parents in Apple Valley, Minnesota, are demanding for no sports practices, games or other activities for children on Sundays. (Link)
The general topic of "family balance" is one that several FSoS grad student bloggers have tackled: See the blogs Working to Live, Work and Family, Gwinn and Bear It, and Future Faculty Fathers. These are, ahem, all blogs from Dads--FSoS Moms: "Where you at?"
Finally, in the interest of shameless self-promotion, I must also point you to this publication I have with Bill on this same topic:
Perry, Y. V., & Doherty, W. J. (2004). Viewing time through the eyes of overscheduled children and their underconnected families. In V. L. Bengtson, A. Acock, K. Allen, P. Dilworth-Anderson, & D. Klein (Eds.), Sourcebook of family theory and research (pp. 255-257). Newbury Park, CA: Sage.

Guess what? I'm reading the very first "sourcebook": Nye & Berardo (1966) "Emerging Conceptual Frameworks In Family Analysis". Well, I say "I'm reading," but it's really more like "when I have some time, I will be reading."
