I've talked before about being a "good citizen of the blogosphere" (see here and here). Well, in an effort to enact my blogging responsibilities, I've used my down time this week to make this blog more community-friendly:
1) Added a new category, "Blogging to Work," specifically about blogging. Bloggers blogging about blogs and blogging seems to be an inevitable part of being part of this community. So, with this category I hope to contribute to that conversation on behalf of those who are also blogging, who may be thinking of blogging, who may be researching blogging, and/or who may be recovering from a blogging habit.
2) Reformatted my individual post URLs to include a shortened version of the entry title, instead of that odd-looking number. (I learned how to do this, as well as the next 3 changes below, from Learning Movable Type--http://www.elise.com/mt/)
3) Added an "About" page to help people know who I am, and what the purposes of this blog are. Until now I had no such page, only a link to my on-line resume on the sidebar. But an informative "About" page appears to be an increasingly standard--and expected--feature of blogs, so I went ahead and cooked one up.
4) Converted my growing monthly archive list to a drop down menu.
5) Added a "Recent Comments" section to the sidebar. This is another one of those standard blog features that up until now I hadn't bothered with because I was still thinking of this as "just for myself."
6) Expanded my "Links" section on the sidebar to include a Bloglines-powered blogroll, "SITBB Blog Neighborhood" that includes some of the blogs and other web sites I like to visit.
