Tears for Sister Coretta

As January 2006 winds to a close, we lose yet another mother of the great U.S. 20th century Human Civil Rights generation, . Her memory and legacy, of course, will live on.

One of her most meaningful legacies for me is the Coretta Scott King Book Award, given each year for a children's book by the Coretta Scott King Committee of the American Library Association's Ethnic Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table. My daughters' library contains many of these award winners, including Martin's Big Words by Doreen Rappaport and Rosa by Nikki Giovanni.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the nominees this year included books about Mrs. King?
