...thing (so far) about my move from grad student status to postdoc (staff) status is
I simply requested a book on-line and a couple days later someone delivered the checked-out-in-my-name book to my office. (At the time I did not have a mailbox yet.) Then today, when it was time to return the book (OK, two days late, actually) I simply slipped the book into the big zip-lock plastic bag thingy and put it in the campus mail bin. No muss. No fuss.
The little pleasures really are the best pleasures, no? At any rate, I figure that by my being so happy about little things like this, I will have kept my expectations for my future academic advancement in a range appropriate enough that almost any progress will be self-defined as forward. Maybe not much of a career development strategy, but at this point that's about all I have! (Just kidding. I have a few other irons in the fire, but I hesitate to comment on them here for fear of jinxing myself...)
Happy Monday!
