One of the negative side effects of blogging is being on the receiving end of spammers. I have done a pretty good job of keeping spam out of my comment sections. Plus UThink has made things pretty easy with all their upgrades and safeguards and whatnot. Besides manually deleting comments when I see them, I have disabled comments on older posts. I decided against installing one of those human checker things where you have to decipher random numbers and letters. I have failed that human test more than once and it is not pleasant to have a computer telling you that you are not human enough to offer your two cents to someone's blog reflections.
But another thing I did do is up the junk comment settings on my blog. Occassionally I take a look to see what I have been missing. And what you all have been missing. I am for the most part anti-censorship, so in the interest of public service I thought I might share some of my more fascinating junk comments with you.
(1) Unfortunately, sometimes comments that are not junk wind up in the trash heap. That was the case with one of my own comments (!) in response to my post Why, Indeed:
Good questions, Mieke. Many, many answers to choose from, but will we learn from these lessons? Anyway, folks might be interested to see some of the video from Carleton's day long teach-in here: http://apps.carleton.edu/events/katrina/katrina_day/av/
Sorry about that! Anyway, I hope everyone will now click on the link to see the follow-up activities at Carleton.
(2) Apparently there are effective, clinically proven, all-natural remedies for all sorts of ailments and conditions. Please drop me an email if you are in need of the URLs on this topic about Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms and size-challenged chests.
(3) One commenter said, "I've managed to save up roughly $81635 in my bank account, but I'm not sure if I should buy a house or not. Do you think the market is stable or do you think that home prices will decrease by a lot?" I am not sure about the wisdom of buying a house or not buying a house. But I am sure that anyone managing to have over $80,000 in their bank account can likely figure it out for themselves. (Barring that, they could simply hand the money over to me for safekeeping until they come to a decision.)
(4) Finally a Mr. Enlargement merely wrote to say, "Have a nice day." (His first name approximately rhymes with Venus. Very curious thing to name one's child, I must say, but to each his or her own.)
I hope this has been helpful! Happy Monday!
