So Long, Summer 2005

Yeah, school starts soon. It's going to be my last year of college before I'm done with my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. It's also in store to be the best year of my life ever.

Part of me is excited. And then a part of me is scared. What am I gonna do when I'm done with school? I don't want to leave Minneapolis but I'm afraid it might be necessary. At the very least, I'm going to work in a big city with a good gay population. This is actually a necessity as far as I'm concerned. My brief visit to St. Louis has shown me at least one thing: I can't live in a city that doesn't have very visible gay clubs. The visibility of the gay clubs in a city is a good indication of how comfortable guys in that city are with their sexuality.

So why not do some more school. I think I already know the answer deep down: I need to have a real job for a year or two. None of this part time restaurant stuff or office work.

Although it would be nice to just get things over and done with as far as school goes, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to wait a few years before going into management or law or perhaps even graduate school.

It's not like I'm going to die anytime soon, but even if I did that would mean I wouldn't have to worry about my student loans! YES!

I have often felt the same way...the easy way out of all my debt is to just die.

Hey, it's been fun reading your blog. I grew up in Minneapolis and currently live in Seattle. I used to love to go to Calhoun Square. I loved going to The Lotus. The mock duck salad was wonderful. I am a 53 year old Mom of an 18 year old daughter who currently works at A@F. She and I were shopping at the Bellevue Square Abercrombie and some guy asked her if she wanted a job. She took it and she has been working her ass off. Bellevue is very multi-cultural- lots of foreigners and it drives her crazy how rude some of them are and how little English some of them speak. She really likes her co-workers. What do you think of the non-stop "techno" tapes they play. Do they feel addictive to you? They have her working the register, women's one and the dressing room usually all in one day. It's her first job so I think it will be a good experience for her. When I was living in Minneapolis, I remember two gay bars- The door and the gay 90's. My best friend was gay and he use to take me there. This was about 20 years ago. Write back if you feel like it and if you have any advice to give to my A@F daughter. Sincerely, Vicki
