Jersey Fire Sale
Controversy at the Fire Sale. Tuesday at the UMD store on it’s
campus they are having a sale of all of their hockey jerseys from the 2004-2005
campaign. The jerseys will go on sale when the store opens, and the sale will go until all
of the jerseys are gone. They are hoping that this will go well and fast, so they can move
in all of their new apparel.
“it’s cool they are doing this, its great for school spirit, that the jerseys are less
expensive. Said freshmen David DuBouis.
“really all it is, is a ploy to get kids to buy there old jerseys because no one else
wants them. Said Josh Hinke, a passer by, “it is all just them trying to salvage every last
buck.
Two different ideas, one, that it is a cheap fire sale so the school can get all they
can out of old items, the otherSchool spirit, the community of the school being brought
together by a 30 percent discount on hockey jerseys, I wonder how accurate that actually
is, but it appears that many students agree with it.
“Oh yeah, Hockey jerseys are really expensive, but it’s the biggest sport in the
school, so everyone wants a piece of it. Said Brandon Roberts, when asked
what he thought of the sale on his way to class.

Maybe he had the real vision of how this sale was to happen, hockey is the
biggest sport at UMD, and it wouldn’t be beyond the university to milk it as much as they
can. Now, while this may be true, the UMD stores are just trying to get any money they
can out of the old jerseys, they still aren’t prying money out of the hands of students, they
aren’t jamming these deep throat down our necks. This is mearly just UMD trying to help
kids out who just want a hockey jersey but can’t afford one at full price, and trying to
make any money they can.
“I would think its more in between somewhere said Brandon when asked if he
thought it was a good thing, or just a scam.
That is really what this all comes down to too, I don’t think there will be to many
complaints about this sale, because the only people who will be buying these jerseys are,
people who really want jerseys and do not have anyway to pay for a full priced one. So
everybody wins, the store wins, if someone buys a jersey, people who want a jersey but
can’t pay for one, now they can have one, and people who can pay for new jerseys, can
still buy them.
