U.S. population shows rapid growth in last decade

The government released preliminary population estimates, and it shows the United States have grown in population by nearly 9 percent, BizJournals reports.

In the last decade the U.S. has grown to about 306 million to 313 million, the Pioneer Press reports.

The official 2010 census reports are separate from this estimate. The census count will be released in a few weeks.

In 2000, the official census count was 281.4 million.
