Senior fellow, Jay Kiedrowski, and research fellow, Emily Saunoi-Sandgren, both with the Public and Nonprofit Leadership Center, have received recent press for their research study on the financial future of Minnesota cities. Commissioned by the League of Minnesota Cities, their research study examines the financial outlook for Minnesota cities, projected out fifteen years into the future - and it doesn't look good. Today's editorial in the Star Tribune sums up the research results with, "A budget deficit is in store for virtually every Minnesota city by 2015. If spending and taxing patterns are left unchanged, deficits will swell on average to 35 percent of city budgets by 2025."
Given these results, the League has launched a public information campaign to engage Minnesotans in a conversation about the future of our cities. Check it out at www.outsidetheox.org.
