Jossey-Bass has released the 4th edition of John Bryson's classic and important book Strategic Planning for Public and Nonprofit Organizations:A Guide to Strengthening and Sustaining Organizational Achievement.
Beverly Stein, president of the Public Strategies Group says "John Bryson recognizes that strategic management is what is called for today--meaning strategic planning must be linked to leadership, stakeholder involvement, the budget process, system redesign, and performance management. This is a tall order, but John's updated book delivers the goods and comes at just the right time!"
"It's great to see the fourth edition of Strategic Planning for Public and Nonprofit Organizations in print," says Bryson. "Both the first and fourth editions were mostly written while I was on sabbatical leave in London: the first was written in a London suburb and the fourth was written in central London. That tracks the history of publicly oriented strategic planning -- from the periphery in the 1980s to the center in the 2010s. The new book is completely updated, so that it is now about strategic management (not just strategic planning). It has all new cases and updated references; and new material is included on how to think about strategic issues, collaborative strategic planning, Web 2.0 uses, competencies, and so on."
Jossey-Bass also released two complimentary workbooks by Bryson: the brand new Implementing and Sustaining Your Strategic Plan: A Workbook for Public and Nonprofit Organizations, co-written with Sharon Roe Anderson and Alston K. Farnum and Creating Your Strategic Plan: A Workbook for Public and Nonprofit Organizations, co-written with Farnum. Charity Insight notes the new workbook "'...offers a wealth of information and tips on how to cope with cultural changes, budgeting, strategic planning and more."
