Analysis: Author Kyle fatally shot on gun range

In an article by the AP titled "Man charged in fatal shooting of ex-seal/author" the lead demonstrates the use of the 4 W's, who, what, where, and when. This article puts an emphasis on who the victim is in the story.

The author starts with who is responsible for the murders, "a 25-year-old man." They go straight into who the victim is and why this story is important, "former Navy SEAL and 'American Sniper' author Chris Kyle." Where and when finish the lead with "a Texas gun range" and "Sunday." The author of the article also gives attribution to the Texas Department of Public Safety for the information concerning the arrest.

The author of the article made the lead concise, accurate, and gave readers enough information to make them want to read the entire article without giving away the story.
