16-year-old girl charged with killing mother, brothers
A 16-year-old girl has been charged with killing her mother and two younger brothers in an attack police say was a response to the family’s attempt to break up the girl’s romance.
Penny Caffey, 37, and her 8- and 13-year-old sons were found in the ashes of their burned East Texas home after the attack Saturday morning. All three victims were shot and stabbed multiple times. Terry Caffey, the teenage girl’s father, was shot in the head but managed to crawl to a neighbor’s house and is now in critical condition.
Four suspects are being held in police custody. The name of the Caffeys’ daughter is being withheld because she is a minor. Charlie James Wilkinson, 19; Charles Allen Wade, 20; and Bobbi Gale Johnson, 18, have also been charged with three counts of murder.
Police believe that the 16-year-old girl was involved romantically with one of the other suspects, and that her parents’ disapproval of the relationship was a motive for the attack.
The murders have badly shaken the small rural community of Alba, Texas, about 60 miles northeast of Dallas.
