Employment Opportunity with the U.S. Secret Service for a Social Science Research Specialist
he U.S. Secret Service, National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC), is seeking candidates for a Social Science Research Specialist position to conduct social and behavioral research, training, and other activities in support of the U.S. Secret Service's protective intelligence mission, and the work of our federal, state, and local partners tasked with protecting public officials, government facilities, and public events. NTAC staff applies research techniques and methodology to examine issues that impact and enhance common understanding and knowledge regarding the prevention of targeted violence, threat assessment, terrorism, criminal behavior, and protective intelligence. Prior efforts include research to examine the behaviors of individuals who target persons and facilities of protective concern; research to examine incidents of targeted violence in institutions of higher education; research to examine the thinking, behaviors, and communications of students who plan and carry out school shootings; and research to examine cyber security issues. Qualified candidates will have experience in research design, methodology, and analyses; and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
