Open-Rank Faculty Position in Behavior Genetics

The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is conducting a major hiring initiative aimed at strengthening its position as one of the world’s major departments. As part of this initiative, the Department is searching for a Behavioral Geneticist to join its graduate training program in Personality, Individual Differences, and Behavioral Genetics. This is an open-rank faculty search, which will be filled at either the tenure-track assistant professor level or at the tenured associate or full professor level depending on qualifications. Tenured appointments will involve a joint hire through Psychology and the University of Minnesota’s Translational Neuroscience Scholars program. The latter is part of a university-wide effort to build strength in basic and applied neuroscience, including genetic approaches to behavioral disorders.

Candidates must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the appointment start date. Essential qualifications are demonstrated scholarly excellence and a well-planned program of research. In addition, for tenured hires, history of external funding and visibility of research program will also be considered. The overall quality of the candidate’s research contributions is more important than specific area within behavioral genetics. Excellence in teaching is strongly desired.

Successful applicants will be expected to carry on an active research program and contribute to the research and training of graduate students. Senior hires will also be expected to contribute to the University’s mission in translational neuroscience. Teaching responsibilities will consist of graduate and undergraduate courses as well as seminars in special areas of interest. There is a large and collaborative group of faculty and research staff in the Department of Psychology interested in behavioral genetic research and the Department houses both the Minnesota Center for Twin and Family Research and the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart. Program faculty are affiliated with the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Human Genetics and the University of Minnesota offers excellent genotyping, imaging, and computing research facilities.

Faculty Positions in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and The Marvin D. Dunnette Distinguished Chair in Industrial and Organizational Psychology

The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is conducting a major hiring initiative aimed at strengthening its position as one of the world’s major departments. As part of this initiative, the Department is seeking to fill up to two tenure-track faculty positions in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. One position is the Marvin D. Dunnette Distinguished Chair in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a tenure-track position in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the rank of assistant professor. Preference will be given to candidates with several years of experience at this rank, with commensurate evidence of an emerging program of research. Highly qualified applicants without such experience will also be considered.

Applications are also being sought for a possible second tenure-track position in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, also at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants with or without experience at this rank are encouraged to apply.

The research emphasis of applicants for the Dunnette Chair should be on the psychology of individual differences as it impacts effective organizational behavior. For both positions we are particularly interested in candidates who will complement the expertise of current I/O faculty and broaden the program’s coverage of various subfields within I/O psychology (e.g., leadership, work motivation, attitudes and values, training and development, decision making). Assistant Professor in Multicultural Psychology

As part of this initiative, the Department is seeking to recruit a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in basic and applied research on Cultural Diversity and Multicultural Psychology. We are seeking someone who will contribute to the Department’s priority interest in culture and diversity, and who will enhance our undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Candidates must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the appointment start date. Essential qualifications include demonstrated scholarly excellence and a well-planned program of research in multicultural or cultural diversity. Specific research areas of interest include: racial and ethnic disparities in physical and mental health; identity, discrimination and intergroup conflict; the development and validation of innovative culture-specific treatments and interventions; individual, family, and organizational models of diversity and development; and the complex and nuanced interactions among culture, race, biology, and cognition on human functioning. Scholars whose research also intersects with other aspects of diversity (e.g., gender, ability, class, sexual orientation) are strongly encouraged to apply as are those who are strongly committed to conducting research that engages our nation’s diversity and/or the increasingly diverse Twin Cities community. Experience and excellence in teaching are strongly desired.

We are particularly interested in scholars who could contribute to our Counseling Psychology and/or Social Psychology programs or one or more of the Department’s five other graduate training programs (Clinical; Cognitive and Biological; Industrial and Organization; Personality, Individual Differences and Behavior Genetics; and Quantitative Methods). Candidates must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology by the appointment start date.
