What's sex got to do with classical music? As a musician and a student of music, I am always searching for new recordings of certain works. In the past, I've come across several album covers that depict certain female musicians in a sexual way. I've investigated this further and have discovered a plethora of female vocalists, violinists, and violists either nearly nude or in suggestive poses with their instruments. Is this really necessary for the sale of classical music. I know sex sells, but really? Don't these female musicians lose their credibility when their recorded work becomes more about the album cover than the work inside? Still, I'm thankful Pavarotti and Bjorling didn't resort to such tactics.
