What's sex got to do with... D&G and Its Advertisements?

Honestly, I am a typical guy.

Although I do not pay much attention on the perfume, bags, or some "modern" goods, D&G shows up at least once in my daily life - on newspaper, in advertisements, in programs on TV, or on the Internet. D&G employes a lot of "naked" elements in their promotional medium.

Citing the example of the post above, what is your first image about the post? Oh, yeah, a sexy man, sexy women, and sexy man and woman. D&G successfully uses the not only naked but also ideal men and women to attract the consumers to stop by and see what's going on there. And then the products will be easily promoted even though people may only pay attention to the sub-point "naked".

So what's sex got to do with D&G and its advertisements? Specifically, does sex really affects the consumers' purchase intention? Moreover, how do you think about advertisements including such naked men and women?

I feel these advertisements touch on what we watched in "Straightlaced". Not only are these pressuring me to feel that D&G symbolizes sexiness, but like the girls in the movie, it shows me that there is no other version or way of sexiness. Our media needs to start featuring women (and men) that are non-traditional and not necessarily blond and blue-eyed or emaciated.

This is really interesting. I agree with you about that D&G sucessfully uses naked models for their advertising. I think the image of D&G has become sexier becase it uses advertisements such as above example appropriately. Sexy image is kind like symbol of D&G. I think sex really affects consumers' purchases because people, who don't think that they have sexual atrractiveness, might want to become like sexy model by purchaging and then using the D&G products. And I think that advertisements including naked man and woman are fine if they are not naked too much because sometimes some advertisements use sexual appeals too much for their products.

Obviously, D&G is utilizing the fact that sex sells. It's human nature for us to be curious about sex...after all, isn't that why most of us took this class? I agree with the person who posted this add that D&G knew exactly what they were doing when they published this ad. It would be hard for someone to just flip through this page in a magazine. The ad gives off a vibe that you will be sexy if you buy D&G, or you have to look like this to buy D&G. On the other hand, I think that some people, including myself, will find this ad tasteless. I thought D&G was supposed to be a classy brand? This ad certainly doesn't show it.

I knew someone would be posting a D&G commercial/advertisement. I have seen multiple of these commercials lately, and never do they make me want to buy their product. I feel like these adversisementes are pushing the notion that if you wear Product X by D&G that essentially, you're going to "get laid." I was recently at the movies to see Harry Potter and was sitting by a family with younger children, when one of these advertisements came on. The mother of the family was left in awe that they are allowed to be shown and commented that they are "like porn." She was upset that it was viewed by her young children and thought that the advertisement was "distasteful, and trashy." I can't say that I disagree. I think that these advertisements have taken it just a little too far.

I think ths is really interesting, I always see these in magazines. I'm someone that is definitely targeted with these kinds of ads and I think they are definitely effective. It makes me think of D&G as a glamorous product and think that beautiful people wear D&G perfume or use their other products. It definitely appeals to me and seems simple and beautiful. I think the idea of perfume or cologne is generally to smell more attractive, so I think using sex is almost a necessary selling point. I think maybe I am desensitized to sex because I don't find an issue with these ads.

To shnow001, I think it's interesting the woman with young kids at the movies would complain about these ads since there is basically as much nudity in one scene of the 7th Harry Potter movie. Though these are just images, I'm guessing they left less of an impression than seeing Harry Potter characters naked together. Seeing topless people in an image is worse than popular characters naked together embracing? She took them to a PG-13 movie so she could probably expect ads wouldn't be just for Disney cartoons or anything. I remembered the Harry Potter scene more than these ads.
