The world of All-star cheearleading has developed over the bast decade into one of the most popular sports in the country. With the extreme amounts of physical demand necessary to do this sport why are boys still ridiculed for doing it? and called gay? what's up with that. If the sport demands physical abilities whats "gay" about it? Why can only girls do crazy hard flips, and through people in the air?
What's Sex got to do with athletics??

I completely agree with what you are saying. I have always wanted to do cheerleading as I even began a male cheer squad at my high school for the football games. I was always the loud one getting people to do cheers and everything but I have thought about this a lot because it has kept me from becoming a cheerleader. Many males are called names or looked at as a homosexual for working hard, in some cases harder than a lot of other sports! Its also weird how it kind of relates to the "Doing Gender" reading because the author talked about how you have to preform your gender for the sake of society which I guess is what I am doing rather than for myself. It also talks about how we have to place pronouns in front of the word enable to categorize ourselves. He uses the example of a male nurse. In this example I have never heard a guy say I am a cheerleader its always "I'm a male cheerleader" signifying that it is a female sport and he is "out of the norm". This is a great post as so many people jump to conclusions calling people gay when they are a part of these groups like cheerleading.
