My roommate discovered this ad the other day while stumbling. After we finished laughing about it, I figured it would be a great example for my entry on the blog. ![]()
The ad displays a woman with flawless skin, laying on bed, shot from above. She's wearing some type of nude color clothing that reveals a lot of skin. It states, "My secret to beautiful skin? I swallow."
The ad is actually for a company called Imdeen, and their skin rejuvenation tablets that are taken through ingestion.
This relates to the Politics of Sex because when viewed through a feminist lens, it's extremely sexist against women. Let's start with the shot angle. When subjects are filmed from above, it puts them in a position of submission and the photographer has the power. The woman in the picture is laying on a bed, which puts her in a vulnerable position. She's wearing a nude color to simulate her nudity. Her skin is flawless, which other women will see and want to be like. The phrase on the ad is a clever allusion to oral sex. A common myth about girls giving oral sex to guys is that swallowing the semen helps a person's complexion, as well as the tablet from Imdeen.
