After watching the presentation in the topics of how "Sex Sells" in cars commercials, I find it interesting. So I found these two BMW ads online, and Sex DOES Sells!
Look at these two ads? Do they "just" sell cars to the consumers? Clearly, both ads not only sells the objects "cars" to the consumers, but also as well the idea "heteronormativity". The BMW adviser creates either an ideal beautiful woman, an ideal muscular man or both in the advertisements . And when someone fails to be in either man or woman categories that these ads create, he or she is considered abnormal. It is clear that "heterosexuality" is the sexuality part in the BMW commercials. They either display or implicitly imply that naturally men and women have strong feelings of desires for each other. But the question to ask is whether "heterosexuality" is natural and who defines "natural". Do you think the mass media and the society creates the idea of "heterosexuality"? While, I think "hertersexuality" is not natural and it is either reinforced through the mass media or created by the society. So what do you think?
