November 30, 2006

Thursday 11/30

Everything went really well. Quiet and industrious. I don't think we will be able to finish pick up on second but what else is new.

Wednesday 11/29

I want to clarify what Levita meant on the tally sheet when she wrote something about an "odd man" that was complained about in Ames tonight. I am almost positive that this man was harmless...in fact, he was quite friendly. I tried to help him find some books in Ames for about 10 minuteas during my desk shift, and he was really quite friendly and didn't make me feel at all uncomfortable. I couldn't find the books he needed on the card catalog, and he had already asked Reference for help with no results, so he decided to just browse the BL section in Ames. Later, Levita told me that another patron in Ames came to her while she was at the desk and told her that there was a "strange man that asked a worker a lot of questions" in Ames. I asked Levita if the patron herself had been approached or made uncomfortable by this man, and Levita said that the patron didn't ask for him to be taken out of Ames or anything. Basically, I think that this patron was just concerned that this man was up to no good, but I know for a fact that he was only browsing shelves since I interacted with him. I asked the rovers to periodically check in Ames to make sure everything was ok, just to be sure.

So really, this incident was not a huge deal, I just wanted to make sure you understood why Levita wrote that comment and what was done about it.

Nothing else tonight!

Tuesday 11/28

Someone was eating on third floor well they yhad pizza left a note for them. Pick up was completed.

Monday 11/27

There have been a couple incidents recently where a patron has been very slow in leaving a library at closing time. I try to make sure that either I or the rover in the last hour will announce around 10 minutes before 8 that the subbasment libraries close at 8. I know that this past Saturday a couple workers couldn't leave until 5:10 because they had to wait for a patron to leave Ames, and also last Monday a similar occurance happened. I don't really know how to prevent this from happening, especially when we give patrons a fair amount of warning about closing times. Are security monitors supposed to stay around until every library has been cleared of patrons?

That's all.

Sunday 11/26

I checked on the shelving in the Annex today, and Aisle 61A has definately been broken. I figured out a way to trick it ino moving by using the big manual overrides because I needed to get a preiodical off that shelf for a patron. I'll also write a note on Pat's desk about this so it get's fixed as soon as possible.

I noticed that pick-up was not done on 3rd floor this Saturday (11/25), and the 2nd floor pick up form Saturday was not completely shelved this morning when I arrived at work. This was frustrating, because there was a lot of pick up today, so we spent the majority of the shifts shelving pick up on 2nd floor. I know this has nothing to do with the subbasement libraries, but I wanted to mention this.

The subbasement libraries were very busy today, but there were no problems.

Saturday 11/25

Today the shelving was being tempermental so I was asked to check on it. The whole system was acting strange blinking red, two blinking red and yelloew, and two blanked arrows. While I was putting in the safety override in aisle 61A the part that held the override broke and went into the machinery I did not put any excess force on it. I had Caleb and Erika who was with me to write down what happened and I will leave that on Pat's desk. A repair man will probably have to be caled to fix that part afterwards the shelving started working again.

November 22, 2006

Wednesday 11/22

The libraries were only open till 6 tonight. The worker in East Asian closed the door at 5, but re-opened it up at about 5:40, I'm not sure why. So 2 patrons werent able to get materials from there.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuesday 11/21/06

There was a shelving problem in East Asian in the Shelf Reading at the end of the section it goes from PL-PS. I took while I was shelving BL books out of one section at BL 1605 there were BL 260-0 I took them out of the shelf but BL 1600-BL 2600 should be shelf read.

Monday 11/20

When I went to take over the desk shift from Amy at 6, she had already left. So the desk was unattended for some time, I'm guessing only a few minutes. Even so, I suppose we should remind everyone working the desk that it is important to stay at the desk until the next worker takes over to ensure a more accurate head count.

It is a good thing that we are shelfreading the PL popular novels in East Asian, because those books are incredibly out of order!

That's it for tonight.

November 19, 2006

Sunday 11/19

I don't have any concerns today. It was a slow Sunday!

November 18, 2006

Saturday 11/18/06

Today was a really quick day. I had everyone concentrate on shelving we got quite a bit done of that. Everything went really smoothly. Have a good weekend.

November 16, 2006

Thursday 11/16/06

Today went by really quick. I believe Ellen finished up 2nd. I know 3rd and 4th are done. I wanted to spend equal amonts of time in each library but I was sorting 76 books in East Asian. I managed to shelf about 6 big folio books when I realized how much time had past nearly 30. I can believe thanksgiving in only a week away, yay. I wish there were more people working today because then we could get more shelving done.

November 15, 2006

Wednesday 11/15

Levita said that the yellow tape area in East Asian (the popular novels - PLs) were out of order, so maybe rovers should shelfread there.

Everything went fine tonight!

November 14, 2006

Tuesday 11/14/06

Today we finished all the shelving. The subbasement libraries were pretty quiet as usual. I don't know if the pick-up was finished but I scheduled Caleb and Ellen to do as much of it as they can. I will leave a list of the people I wish to show the search process. I realized yesterday I could just look at the list of people who work Saturday and looked at who I've showed it to already only Erika knows right now how to do the whole search process.

November 13, 2006

Monday 11/13/06

I must have forgotten to put away the sheet of paper the patron left I believe I may have left it on the desk when I left Sunday. I found an area on third that needs shelfreading the area is a tiny bit out of order and that makes it hard to shelf books in the area. 944.035 M34. I just found it today while helping Kate do pick up on third. I will ask those who work with me Saturday to check who knows what and will get back to Pat.

November 12, 2006

Sunday 11/12/06

Everyone did a really good job. I clean during my first and second roving period if that is all right. I was wondering if I could show the search procedure to other desk trained students that are around on Saturday. That will make scheduling easier. Just them searching and sending emails. The rover log has been filled out. The person Julia wrote a note about still did not come in. A person left a sheet with book information I am leaving it on Jackie's Desk.

November 11, 2006

Saturday 11/11/06

We managed to get all the shelving done. Everything went smooth. I showed Sally how to send the letters after Searches, and how to change the item process status to missing. The person Julia taped a message on the work schedule about did not come in today. I was thinking of coming at 12 on Sunday since Ann will not be in tomorrow. Have a good weekend.

November 9, 2006

Thursday 11/9

Today was a pretty quiet night. The security guards came around routinely. There were books in Ames that needed shelving a rarity. I want to wish everyone a great Veteran's day cause I am off from my other job tomorrow because of it. Goodnight.

November 8, 2006

Wednesday 11/8

Tonight while I roved I scanned through the East Asian library PL's to see if I could find any yellow-taped novels in with the regular PL's. I did find 3 books. I'll probably make it a habit of checking these areas so hopefully we can crack down on this misshelving problem.

Tonight was definately a slow night in the subbasement, especially from after 6 to 8.

November 7, 2006

Tuesday 11/7

Nothing very big going on a lot got done.

November 6, 2006

Monday 11/6

Everything went really well tonight. So, yet again, I have no suggestions or concerns.

November 5, 2006

Sunday 11/5

No concerns today!

November 4, 2006

Saturday 11/4

I realized today that a lot of people don't fill out the Annex user stats sheet while helping patrons udring the evening and weekends. I think a lot of times they just forget to do it, so I was trying to think if there would be a more convenient way to keep track of this information. I suppose we could just remind desk workers, or else maybe we can put a stat sheet out at the desk? I just want to make sure that the information stays accurate.

Other than that everything went fine.

November 2, 2006

Thurs. 11/2

Happy Birthday Jackie!!

No concerns tonight. I made sure all the pick-up shelving was done in East Asian and Ames. That's all!

November 1, 2006

Monday 11/1

When I was roving tonight I saw that an Annex truck that was filled with Ames books from the bindery was sitting in Ames. The person who was shelving in the morning obviously didn't finish the truck, so I made sure to shelve the rest of the books. This just emphasizes the fact that shelvers in Ames and East Asian need to communicate with us if they didn't finish shelving, and/or that they should bring uncompleted trucks back into the Annex.

Other than that, no problems tonight,
