Minnesota Twins catcher, Joe Mauer, popped the question to his girlfriend of 1 1/2 years, Star Tribune said.

The two have been friends for seven years, Star Tribune said.

Mauer proposed to Maddie Bisanz, St. Paul nurse, in Sanibel, Fla. over the weekend, Pioneer Press said.

They both graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall, Pioneer Press said.

No date has been set, Star Tribune said.

St. Paul Ford Plant Land

The Ford plant in St. Paul will be closed in December after being open since 1924, Pioneer Press said.

Shortly after the plant closes 122 acres will be for sale. The city is undecided what to do with the land, Star Tribune said.

When the plant closes over 800 people will lose their job, Star Tribune said.

The city looked at other examples across the country of other car plants that have been closed, then turned into real estate land, Star Tribune said.

In other examples of closed car plants, the renovations took between 10-15 years to complete, Star Tribune said.

Garrison Keillor Re-guesses Retirement

Garrison Keillor, host of, "A Prairie Home Companion," might not retire in 2013 as previously planned, Pioneer Press said.

Keillor, 69, told the Sioux City Journal about his recent reconsideration of retirement, Star Tribune said.

Keillor had a minor stroke in 2009, Star Tribune said.

Keillor has been broadcasting PHC in St. Paul since 1993, Star Tribune said.

Man Found in Anoka County

Since Oct. 11 Jeffrey Jacobus, 57, had been missing from Ham Lake, Pioneer Press said.

A man was found dead in Anoka County, wearing the same clothes as Jacobus when reported missing, Star Tribune said.

An autopsy will reveal cause of death and identify the body, Pioneer Press said.

The location the body was found has not been released, Star Tribune said.

Fatal Shooting in Roseville by Police

A man was killed in his apartment in Roseville when police responded Thursday night to a "domestic disturbance call," Pioneer Press said.

Police arrived at 655 Larpenteur Ave. W. and went to Wayne Malone's apartment. He came from his apartment with a gun. Police asked Malone to drop his weapon repeatedly, Star Tribune said.

Witnesses recalled hearing half a dozen shots as Malone was shot down by police, Star Tribune said.

Malone's neighbors said he was a peaceful, quiet man, Pioneer Press said.

This was not Malone's first encounter with police. Several times through the past year police have dealt with Malone, Star Tribune said.

St. Paul Stabbing

One man is dead and a woman has life threatening injuries after a stabbing in St. Paul early Saturday morning, Star Tribune said.

Police were called the scene at the 1400 block of Farrington Street, Pioneer Press said.

A man is currently in custody as a suspect for the stabbings. There was a known relationship between the woman and the man in custody, Pioneer Press said.

No names have been released. The woman was taken to Regions Hospital to be treated, Star Tribune said.

Anoka Man Survives Head Shot

An Anoka man survived being shot in the head early Friday morning, Pioneer Press said.

Police have identified a suspect but have not made an arrest, Star Tribune said.

The victim was shot at 117 1/2 Benton St., Star Tribune said.

Police received a search warrant to search the premise. Police think the shot was not random, Pioneer Press said.

Push for Arden Hills Stadium

Minnesota Vikings owners wrote a letter to Sen. Mark Dayton pushing for the stadium to be built in Arden Hills, Star Tribune said.

Zygi and Mark Wilf told Dayton that the $407 million dollars toward the stadium will only be given if the stadium is built at the proposed site, Pioneer Press said.

The majority of the funding for the $1.1 billion stadium would come from public money, Pioneer Press said.

The proposed stadium could hold 65,000 seats and over 20,000 parking spots, Pioneer Press said.

Eden Prairie Man Dies

A man from Eden Prairie was found in his crashed car in North Minneapolis with a gun shot wound in his abdomen, Star Tribune said.

Steven E. Meyer, 36, was transported from the scene to North Memorial Medical Center to be treated for his wounds, where he died, Pioneer Press said.

It is unknown if the shot was fired while he was in the car, or if he was on his way to seek medical help from the shot, Star Tribune said.

As of Saturday night no suspect has been determined, Pioneer Press said.


Jesse Ventura

A St. Paul federal judge threw out Jesse Ventura's, former Minnesota governor, lawsuit against airport security checks Friday, Pioneer Press said.

Ventura received a titanium hip implant in 2002, since then, going through airport security has brought on enhanced body screenings and full-body pat downs, Star Tribune said.

Ventura thinks he could win the trial by jury on lessening airport security, Star Tribune said, other actions Ventura proposed was to run for president and change the laws himself.

Ventura's response to running for president was, "I'm thinking about it," Pioneer Press said.
