Transgender 20/20 last week
Last week ABC's 20/20 did a show on transgender youth and the stories these three children shared were so powerful that my coworkers are still talking about them. Quickly after I mentioned this class and the final presentation my group and I did on transgender and intersex individuals they urged me to include some of these stories or clips into the presentation. Due to timing, here are the text stories from all three children and a link to 20/20's website if you want to view clips of the episode aired 4/28

Gender has no boundaries. Chances are that these kids will face difficulties in life, harassment and hate from ignorant, malicious people who are afraid of what is unusual, what they deem 'unnatural'. They will have a tough time in society, but it is my hope that they stay strong, persevere, and live life to it's fullest!

PS: These really are some adorable pictures.

Is this a psychological disease?

No, this is not a psychological disease.
It is a preference and belief that one is living in the wrong body, it is as much of a disease as liking apples over oranges.

I think it's amazing how brave these children are, and how understanding their parents are. I'm only 22 and not ready to have children but when one day I do and my if child goes through this I'm glad that I will have a better understanding because of these brave souls and will be able to help them on their way to being as they see themselves.
Thank you to all the parents for loving your children for who they are, not who society thinks they should be. I think that having parents that love them for who they are means more than anything, you've given these children so much and I'm sure that God is smiling because of you.

These kids have more guts than most adults do. Life is a one shot deal, and it's awesome that they get to live it the way they want to, and are so fortunate that their parents are so supportive. I cried when I saw the special. These children are beautiful inspirations. They have my upmost support.
