Me and the Movies
I am ashamed to admit that I mostly only watch big Hollywood productions. However, this year I want to introduce myself to a lot more indie and classical films. Between this class and my Intro to Film Study class, I plan on broadening my film experiences. Also, I have just heard about a small theatre on campus that plays a lot of different movies so I plan on going to see what they have to offer. At home, we have satellite TV with no big movie channels. I do not watch TV often, but when I do I like to watch music videos. For some reason they fascinate me. I like the mini story plots they have, and these days they make them so glamourous it's hard to turn away. When I watch movies I either buy them on DVD or go out to the movie theatre. There is something about the movie theatre that draws me to it. This summer I went about twice a month. I rarely rent movies. I also sometimes watch movies off my laptop but rarely because I think it is too small.
I think I am related to the things that I watch because I am the type of person that likes to have fun experiences. I like to travel to different places in the world. I like to go skiing, snorkeling, boating, flying on airplanes, out to dinner, and try anything else that I have not tried before. I like to watch exciting and action packed movies because I feel that my life is like that sometimes too.
I do not like watching movies on my laptop as I said earlier because I think that it is too small and the effect is not as good. I like going to the movies because it is dark, and there is surround sound and I think all that stuff sets the mood and makes the movie more believable. It especially makes horror films more believable.
I am excited to watch different films this year so my opinions will become more educated and well rounded.

I'm the same way in terms of going to mainly Hollywoood films in the theaters, which is an amazing experience no matter what the film is, like you said, because of the ambiance. As a South Minneapolis native, however, let me say that it is MANDATORY that you go to the theater. I don't care what play or where--JUST GO. Minneapolis has the second largest number of theater seats in the country next to New York but almost no one on campus seems to utilize the opportunities. Theater in the Round is right next to Grand Marc on the West Bank, and although it's not my favorite in the city, no matter what you see it's a cool experience. Mixed Blood is also nearby and it is always interesting and thought provoking. I like the Guthrie Lab, which is downtown, as well. Okay! I've rambled for long enough. My point is, if you want interesting, thought provoking entertainment with an ambiance, look no further than Minneapolis theater.

I really enjoy watching movies in theaters also! It's been so long, I can hardly remember how fun it is. I agree that the big screen, the darkness, and the surround sound definitely makes the effect more intense. I will have to try and make more time to go to the theaters.
