IFP Cinema Lounge

GOULISHLY GOOD OCTOBER CINEMA LOUNGE

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 - Doors 6pm, Show 7pm - FREE

What's spooky, yet entertaining, and tastes like beer? Why it's a special Halloween edition of the Cinema Lounge, the Twin Cities' original short film showcase! For this month, we're celebrating good ol' All Hallow's Eve with a line-up that is chock full of zombie-dueling pirates, record-breaking giant pumpkins, and a bloodthirsty werewolf. As a special treat, we have a trailer from some home-town filmmakers that took finalist honors in the 2007 Grindhouse Trailer Competition at this year's South By Southwest Festival. It's an homage to the horror b-movie trailers of the 70's... and just downright awesome. Come down to the Bryant-Lake Bowl theater have a bloody good time with some excellent local, short films over a cold beer at the Cinema Lounge! October's line-up includes:

"Pirates vs. Zombies" by Jeremy Wilker and Jesse Roesler

"There's a Werewolf In My Attic" by Sam Thompson

"Dead Won't Die" (trailer) by Todd Cobery and Brady Kiernan

"Bill's Big Pumpkins" by Ryan Foss and Bill Nagel

Cinema Lounge is made possible by support from Lommen/Abdo and the Minnesota History Center's Greatest Generation Project.

Featuring Enemies of Happiness, a film by Eva Mulvad and Anja Al-Erhayem

Tuesday, October 23, 7 p.m.

St. Anthony Park Branch Library

2245 Como Avenue, Saint Paul

Free and open to the public

Among the candidates for the first parliamentary elections in Afghanistan in 35 years was Malalai Joya, a courageous, controversial 27-year-old woman who ignited outrage among hardliners when she spoke out against corrupt warlords at the Grand Council of tribal elders in 2003. Enemies of Happiness is a revelatory portrait of this extraordinary freedom fighter and the way she won the hearts of voters, as well as a snapshot of life and politics in war-torn Afghanistan.

A discussion will follow the film, hosted by Rosalyn Park, Minnesota Advocates Staff Attorney in the Women’s Human Rights Program.
