Jessie's Image

death8.jpg
I chose this image because it is so typical of what we see in magazines. The women has fallen down the stairs and appears to be dead. However, she is still very beautiful and the colors in the image are bright and happy. Because of the way she looks, the image seems to say, "Death is sexy. She's dead but look at how great the dress looks on her." I feel mixed emotions when looking at this image. Am I supposed to feel sad because she has met her fate on a set of stairs, or should feel compelled to buy the product? So the question you have to ask yourself is, is death sexy?

This picture reminds me of a more modern version of Snow White where she eats the poison apple and instantly collapsed.
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? “Queen, you’re the fairest where you are, but Snow White is the more beautiful by far. Maybe this picture is trying to duplicate the idea that like Snow White, the woman in this image death is cause by her beauty.

Yeah, I guess stairs and high heels don't mix. I have seen this picture before and honestly... it reminds me of prom. High school girls generally suck at walking in high heels, throw in an uncomfortable dress and let gravity do the rest. At least I was a gentleman and caught my date whenever she was about to take a spill.

Versache is an Italian brand and if you look at the setting the woman is laying in, it seems to be on the steps of Italy. The winding concrete steps and the colors are reminiscent of Italian architecture. I think Versache did this to to familiarize audiences with their style and background.

I agree that it seems to replicate Snow White's poison-apple-induced collapse. However, to me, this woman looks very masculine, which does not go along with my ideas of Snow White or Versace. I think mainly it is because she is upside down and her breasts are not in their "normal position," but it gives the illusion that she has very well-defined pecs. Also, her arms and legs seem rather muscular, though it could be a light trick. And since she is upside down, her face is harder to read, and its harder to see what kind of beauty she is. Overall, I just find it kind of bizarre, it looks more like a fallen drag-queen with a feminine face and/or impeccable make-up than an add for astonishing haute couture.

Wouldn't falling down stone steps ruin a Versace dress and shoes anyways? I dunno... it is definitely intriguing.
