We have two friends here who have grown together in the same childhood and same place. They share some similarities but mostly have nothing in common. One of them is from a rich family and the other from a poor family. For them class didn’t matter at first, it was all about being friends and becoming close to each other. These two friends have exchanged private stories that they would even share with their own families. That was how close they were to each other till it came to a horrifying end.

In the past generation there were lots of differences in American society. The book of Song of Solomon talks about how things were different in those dark days. The main theme was basically compared to two different communities, white and black. The main character (Milkman) seems that he is not aware of what is happening in of twentieth century. But most importantly the milkman was trying to understand the difference between him and his father.

Why is Milkman become more selfness
In the book “ Song of Solomon By Toni Morrison, it basically tells a family that all these type of conflicted occurring to the family members and friends that face discrimination. Milkman’s have a conflicted with his father, because his father doesn’t really want to talk about his past to Milkman. Milkman father wasn’t that open to talk to Milkman about the past of what happened and how his father made him more selfness.

I was so hurt when I knew that Suzi, my best friend betrayed me to get the championship in the competition. I have been working very hard for the competition because I needed the reward to buy an air ticket so that I could fly back to my home town to visit my family. Unfortunately, she took all my hard work and submitted them as her answer and she won for the competition and she used the money to buy clothes and make up product. As I read Tony Morrison’s “Song of Solomon novel, the friendship among Milkman and Guitar reminded me of Suzi’s condition. Guitar was as selfish as Suzi as both of them betrayed their best friend. Yes, Guitar was more mature in life’s experience than Milkman and he treated Milkman very well in the beginning. Somehow, conflicts started happening among them and in the end, Guitar tried to take advantage of Milkman because of his own benefit. Although it was, Milkman still convinced himself that Guitar did those for certain purpose until the moment he killed Pilate.

*Welcome to give any comment. Somehow, I think the thesis is not really debatable. Thanks so much ^^*

“But that don’t mean were not different people. We cant always think the same way about things (102:Morrison) In this quote Guitar lets Milkman know that they see things in different ways and how they carry out their life’s in different manners. One the main character of Song of Solomon Milkman, see things as if everything is good, he is careless and you could also say he is selfish. His friend Guitar sees things differently he is more of an extreme activist and pays attention to things around and realizes that everything around him is not looking good and is serious about trying to make everything even with the white counterparts.

One day when I was walking down the street I saw a white girl and I whistled at her to say hey and then I got beat and killed by eight white kids my name is emit till. I was fourteen at time and I was living in Montgomery, Alabama but I was originally from the north. Before this incident I always heard of racism but it never played a big role in my life because I was very young plus I lived in the north where things weren’t so tense. But the day I got attacked made me realize how hard this life can be but it was too late.

Many people had many attitudes that were complementing each other and there were those who were at conflict with each other. For example Milkman and Pilate had two different attitudes but at the same time they were getting along with each other without any conflicts. There were more examples of this, but the most important relationship to me was milkman and his father and the way they acted and the way they grew off of each other. Milkman had a weird way of trying not being like his father but at the same time doing things that were his father’s habits.

In the book Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison shows various kinds of conflicts that Milkman has throughout the whole story. Milkman had conflict with his dad, Macon Jr., about Pilate, his sister. He also had trouble with himself not loving his family or even cares much about anyone. He was totally independent and he always thought what was best for him. But mostly, just like he said in the novel, “Oh, shit, do we have to hear about Alabama again? he never willing to spend his time to listen to what others want to say. Just like how Milkman reacted to Guitar after he told his story to Guitar, I also had very similar friend of mine just like Milkman who would tell his story to get advices but does not willing to spend time to listen about what others had to tell to get some advice.

The enthusiastic son of Macon dead, Milkman had a dream that he will get rich in one day. The young boy did know the path that he should take to his dreams of being independent. His aspiration for money leaded him to steal the bones of the dead body of his grandfather that his ant kept in her house for a long time in order to to full fill the order that her father gave her in her dream. He did not quit with all of this experience, but he leaded hi aunt who saved him when he was coming to the earth from the hand of his father.

“The father may soar and the children may know their name. The Song of the Solomon written by Toni Morrison was a unique form the other story that I had read. The novel captures many themes between the relationship and racism against the character in that time of the period. The novel itself mostly focus on the real life issue rather than fiction and by doing this created a way for the audience to be able to connect to the character in the book. Morrison points out a very important issue that deal with relationship between Milkman and his father. The relationship between them was very strange and hash to each other. This causes them to act as cold hearted to one other. As a result they relationship was broke apart from each other. For us, the reader to be able to understand the problem, we must look deeper into the root of the issue which causes conflict at the first place. Milkman relationship between his fathers created isolation for him from the family. He most of the time seem lonely. He also lost some part of his identity over this matter.

"Solomon done sfly,Solomon done gone","Solomon cut across the sky, Solomon gone home."(pg.303) stated in the book Song of Solomon symblized Milkman's journey to find his self idenity. Despite of many conflicts happened within the community and his family, Milkman had lost himself in racism, lies and hatred. The journey to find about his great granfather really changed Milkman's perspective from hiding from the reality to look as life as more colorful.

A good environment will effect a people's life. it will also act a very important part of the grow of a child. people usually get successed esaily if they had a good life environment when they were young. but other side, if their environment is not that good it will become a difficulity for us in our life. In Song of Solomon, I think the conflict between Milkman and the society around him would be a very big and serious conflict. it exists in his family side, but also his friend side.

Most of the time people disagree and has different idea. What is wrong for some one is right for other one. People are not same and they are different as the five fingers different from each other. In daily life people have conflict because its part of our daily activity. It is not an amazing thing to have a conflict because it’s showing that we see things in a different direction. Also people have different perspective and cultural. In the Song of Solomon book there are more than one conflict but the most influenced conflict that attract me is about how strange the Corinthian and Porter relationship started and how it ended.

Between 1930s and 1940s were the times that racism and killing were the big issues around the United States. Author Toni Morrison knows exactly what were going on at the time. She had been there, and she had lived there. According to the New York Times, "Morrison dazzles.... she creates a black community strangely unto itself yet never out of touch with the white world....with an ear as sharp as glass she has listened to the music of black talk and uses it as a palette knife to create black lives and to provide some of the best fictional dialogue around today." One of the Main character was Milkman. He was selfish and odd person because of what he had through. He hated his parents because of what they hid from him. He hated his dad because of the way that his dad treated his mom...Everything that he had and went through, made him become a strange person.

Every conflict has root that need to be understood However, there is little conflict that is un solvable and it is always harder to even determine what it is. In the book Song of Solomon I have discovered that one of the biggest conflicts is the conflict that is between Macon and his sister Pilate. This conflict is one hidden, two it is between brother and sister and three they are passing it to their children.

Abdirashid's intro.

The intro has a storywise telling. It is going to be interesting page to write. It interests me because of the story, but I think he should develop more not only in a storywise telling, but actually to make his thesis statement clearer. I feel like that his thesis statement is that Milkman wants to be a independent man, but then I'm not sure if it is what he really thought as a thesis statement. I think he should not only write the story, but have a clear thesis and then he can write a short version of story that can be a support intro and a main point of what his body paragraph's going to be.

Thorn's introduction seems was introduced a clear idea of his opinion about how the author wants to talk about in the book and the what the author wants to focus on. But I get a little bit confused by the quote which used by Thorn, I guess if he can explian why he chose this quote will be better for us to understand his idea.

Here is my comment on the introduction posted by shwuyann.

I like the way you connected your personal experience with the story of the characters in "Song of Solomon". How ever it sound like you begin with your thesis statement. I suggest it would be better if you start with some general idea about the conflict happend in the novel followed by your thesis statement.

Comment on Nick.
In Nick introduction, it seems to me that he had a very well thought introduction that have a clear thesis. He started from the generalized idea and continues on to the clear thesis. “In Song of Solomon, I think the conflict between Milkman and the society around him would be a very big and serious conflict. it exists in his family side, but also his friend side. His thesis is debatable because in the novel there a lot of example to support that. His conflict between his father Macon and his conflicted again the people he love. There a lot of conflict. However, there some problem about the thesis because by saying conflict between the family and friend. It can be a lot of conflict and it was a lot of them. So maybe try to focus on some specific conflict and talk about it.

Detail are too formal in a way of general, like too late for what and what do u mean got killed, did u know the girl? It picks up my attention because of an intense beating up start. It is not debatable because there is nothing to debate or own thoughts.

My name is Cortians, I am the daughter of ruth and i have a sister named Lena. I have spend three years in college and my junior year in France. I have not found a job that id fitting my major. I only could have found one kind of employment which is being a maid and i ended up being Miss Graham's maid. She is a rich poet. i am also over thirty-five and not yet married. I thought with my families wealth and my level of education, i would at least get married to a doctor and if not a lawyer. As time passed i learned that men are not intrested in a woman who is used to being rich and is well educated. This effects me the most because i was well raised and well educated, me is what they are avoiding. i have many conflicts to deal with, one me not being married and over thirty-five, two am well educated and not holding a decent job, not even half as decent as people in the same level as me, and third is me not able to go back to school.

SHWUYANN, i like they way you connect your story to the book. you got almost excellent start, but you need more details about how this things happened.

HUY
His introduction was great. He started with a quote from a song that he learned. He also had thesis but still it was not clear enough. He need to make the thesis more focus.

Nick
I like your intro and the argument that you made by looking at the both sides of the conflict with Milkman wether it is the society or the family.

Abdihakim and I seem to have the same style of writing. it is getting my attention and i clearly see his thesis.

your introduction is very intresting, and it fcuses on the conflict between the father and Milkman. your theses is about the effects of the bad relationship between the father and the son. you will explain how this affected Milkman by seperating from his famil and how messed up with his identity.

Thorn Hoth.

Comments on Abdihakim Abdullahi's introduction.

First, the first sentence really grabs my attention. Eventhough, the story doesn't realate to the writer but the story itself manages to cover the theme of racism in Song of Solomon.
Second, I'm having trouble finding the thesis that is related to the book. Maybe, you should include example or characters that involve in this conflict.
Last, a clear thesis would make the intro more clear as a way to make readers connect to it. Overall, great start and just need a little bit more information. :)

this is my comment on the introduction posted by An.
An, this is a great intro that attract me but it seems to me like that you need to tell specific thing or what is the conflict not in general like he hated his parent. it will be owsame if you you tell why he hated his parents is he hated more than one things or not. be specific but overall you did good job.

Nick Chen:

The opening strategy is quite interesting that it mentions about the environment in general. Then Nick slowly relates it with the character, Milkman. Somehow, the thesis is too short and not debatable. It is quite broad and does not mention what exactly happen in between Milkman and his family and Milkman and the society. Also, it does not mention about “why. Why all this happen to Milkman?

Suggestion: Grammar can still be improved. Some part is not clearly mentioned due to the grammatical problem.
