         <title>Blog Journal for Wednesday, March 12</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>In making the transition from Paper #1 to Paper #2, you will be expected to think about issues of conflict, culture, and history as they relate to the novel Song of Solomon.  For today's entry, choose from one of the following prompts, and write for about 10-15 minutes.</p>

<p>Choose 1:</p>

<p>A.  After Milkman hits his father, he has the following realization: "His action was his and his alone.  It would change nothing between his parents.  It would change nothing inside them.  He had knocked his father down and perhaps there were new positions on the chessboard, but the game would go on" ( 68).  Explain what he means, and why he might feel this way.  In what ways are Milkman's action and reflection historical?</p>

<p>B.  When Guitar and Milkman go into the bar, Feather kicks them out, and when he does this, the following conversation occurs:</p>

<p>"So get him outta here."<br />
"He can't help who his Daddy is."  Guitar had his voice under control.<br />
"Neither can I.  Out."<br />
"What's his Daddy to you?"<br />
"Nothing yet.  That's why I want him outta here."<br />
"He ain't like his Daddy."<br />
"He ain't got to be like him--FROM him is enough." (p. 57)</p>

<p>Choose own perspective from this conversation (Guitar or Feather) and explain first, what the character's perspective on Milkman's identity is, and then why the character might have that perspective.</p>]]></description>

<p>Choose a chapter (1, 2 or 3) and summarize the main CONFLICTS that take place in this chapter.  In other words, don't just describe the events of the chapter, but focus on those involved in the conflict, the reasons for the conflict, the perspectives of those involved, etc...          <title>Fact vs. Truth - class discussion</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACT AND TRUTH?<br />
</strong><br />
-For Toni Morrison, "facts can exist without human intelligence, but truth cannot."</p>

<p>- Fact is something that can be proven through a hypothesis with a theory. </p>

<p>- Truth is accepted/agreed on by a specific community, depending on the area.<br />
<strong><br />
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACT AND FICTION?</strong></p>

<p>-Something can be added to a fact to make it fiction. </p>

<p>-If you want to add imagination, fact could be the place you start from.</p>

<p>-Some might view the same work as fiction, or fact. Perhaps fiction could be truth, also? </p>

<p><strong>WHAT IS MEMORY?</strong></p>

<p>- You might remember something differently now than how it happened a long time ago. </p>

<p>- It depends on the kind of story it is, how well you remember it - you might remember bits and pieces of things like kindergarten, but something tragic or extreme will be easier to remember with detail.</p>

<p>- There are different kinds of memory - short term and long term memory, and the memory might change as you/your brain grows.</p>]]></description>
