will you vote???

to answer the questions asked of me. i've been following the election as closely as i can with out getting myself to caught up in all the mudslinging. the article about youth voting hit it's strong point when it properly stated that youth vote in lower numbers then adults and when it explained the history of youth voting. other than that nothing stands out in my head. i was rather annoyed by the article. i don't want a party to be thrown when i vote. i believe that we don't vote for a number of reasons. one of them being that we don't really recieve education on it like our grandparents did. but that is not nearly as big of a reason as the way politics are run now adays. the democrats and republicans run everything. this was not how our political system began and is not an ideal state for it. instead of working towards compromise, the democrats and republics fight and fight some more. if you ask me we need more people like john mccann. all the crap, mudslinging and lieing make me not want to vote!!!

i know that we, as an age group don't turn out to vote in very high numbers. i'll be voting in nov. because it's my civic duty and i know how lucky i am to have the chance to vote even if the canidates suck!! i think that if we as an age group had the time and knowledge we could easily change and make a difference in politics in this country. any other thoughts?

poth0014, I defintely hope you'll vote, whichever way you decide to go. In my state, our local representative has just submitted a bill to the state senate asking that a polling place be established on the UMass campus, so that students don't have to submit absentee ballots in order to vote.

Yeah, I'll definitely agree, too, that it's been a really dirty campaign -- and I admire John McCain for how he's tried to stay above it, even if I don't agree with some of his ideas.

Speaking as a college teacher and a veteran, I'll also say that yes, I definitely think you can make a difference. And your classmates, too. One of the ways might be through dialogue. Some UMass-Amherst students in my classes just posted some of their opinions about the election -- you might check out the "weblogs" links for the course I teach. Who knows: maybe Minnesota talking to Massachusetts might be a good thing?
