Yes, racism does exist even in today's society. What I mean about this is that I was watching tv today and right after the Kerry and Bush debate the news came on. It had got to the point where it started talking about where this couple had got married. That's not just the thing to the subject. The thing is that an White American woman had got married to an African American man and at there wedding they had got some racial slurs in their guest book. In the guest book the people had use the term "milk chocalate" and "nigger" to describe the black man. I just don't understand why is the word racism in people's mind and in the dictionary. Really to me I think we don't even need that word in our heads as far as thinking of the color of a person. I mean, who cares who marry who if a man loves a women than why should it be some type of hate circling around that. WE should treat every color as one. The word racism means hate to me when you refer it to color of people.
The thing I am trting to get across is why should a person be judge by the way they look.
Hey, Rico, I was trying to see if that story was online somewhere. I didn't know which channel you watched, so I tried the KARE 11 site first. Unfortunately, while there I found an even more disturbing story about racism. So sad. But it goes back to what a lot of you are saying here, that everyone's freedom of speech is protected, whether it's someone who's handing out copies of the Bible or a white power record label who mass-mails "pro-white sampler CDs" to white kids ages 13-19. Sigh.
Posted by: Clancy at October 1, 2004 08:59 AMI don't know why some people have an issue with "interracial marriages". I mean after all we're all human beings, and if you love someone it shouldn't matter what their ethnicity is. It's just like saying someone with green eyes must marry someone only with green eyes. It doesn't make sense.
Posted by: Chelle19 at October 1, 2004 04:19 PMIt seems like people who do racist things like writing "milk chocolate" on that couple's wedding picture have deep hatred inside of them. It shows that they are cowards, and that they can't accept the fact that God made people who look different than they do. I just don't understand why in the world it is so hard for some people to accept that fact.It really hurts when people make racist comments, or do mean things like that. I'm really glad that the couple on the news stuck up for themselves, like when the man said "I am marrying a white woman and I love her to death." That shows that there are good people out there who just accept others the way God created them, and don't let physical differences get in the way of love or whatever.
Posted by: Alia at October 2, 2004 06:12 PMCorrection: I DO understand why it is so hard for some people to accept the fact that God created humans differently...I think some of the reasons are: they are AFRAID to accept that fact, they are full of hatred, also some people just feel superior to others...
