Hey everyone! Hope you all enjoy your day off class tomorrow and have a great weekend first of all! Second of all, I wanted to get my topic out there for you all to comment on before the prospectus is due. I am writing mine about the controversy surrounding membership policies at Augusta National Golf Club. Have you even heard of Augusta National ever? It is the golf club where the Masters Tournament is held each year which is considered the biggest PGA tournament in the world. Well anyways, Augusta National does not allow women to become members of their golf club, so in other words, it is a male-only club. I am interested to see initial reactions from you guys regarding this issue. Also, were any of you aware that this membership policy existed or do any of you even have any interest in the game of golf? I was on our high school Varsity Golf Team, and naturally since I am a female golfer I became interested in this topic. I think it will be interesting to compare the views of the girls in the class to the views of the guys in the class regarding the minimal amount of informatio I have given you about my topic. I don't want to spoil the fun and tell you all about the background info. on my topic since the idea here is to find out how much you ALREADY know. So I guess that's it, please comment back with your input! See you all Monday! ~Courtney
I don't think I have heard of that tournament, except when Mrs. Ratliff was discussing about it in the class. I would like to know a few things on the policies withheld on women in this competition.
Posted by: Olzhas Toleu at October 15, 2004 10:11 AMWell, I kinda know about the issue that women are not allowed to be part of this club, but I dont really know what the reasons for that are...Personally (and with the little knowledge that I have about this) I think that if there is a club where only men are allowed, why doesn't a bunch of prof. women golfers make a club only for women????? Maybe that sounds dumb but again I don't really know about this topic ! Good luck and have a great weekend...

I hope you have a great weekend also! I am somewhat familiar with your topic. My family is very into golf and always has been. I try to golf, but it is a learning process....Anyways, I think it is a great issue to look in to. There is such a thing as a women's golf league, so why does this particular one need to be s exclusive? I am very interested in hearing what you find about this topic, not only because it is wrong for women not to be able to be members, but also because i care about the game of golf. God luck! Let me know what you find!
Hey girl, I think that it is sexist that women aren't allowed to become members there. Although there are places where men generally don't become members (Curves) I believe that if a woman really wanted to join the club they should be able to. Discrimination is discrimination no matter how it is done. I think a reason why they haven't changed the policy may be due to tradition or something, but I don't know that much about it so I can't wait to hear about it!
