Narrowing...

O.kay, I did some research and I narrowed my topic to the effect of rap lyrics on the youth of today. Now what do you all think? Do you feel that rap lyrics have a negative effect on our children or do you think that their behavior has nothing to do with that. Let me know and as always...HOLLATCHABOUGH!

hey! i think that rap lyrics today definetely have an efect on kids today. they listen to the music all the time, and so the lyrics just sort of get implanted in their little brains, and then they start believing them and feel like they should should realte to the rappers and stuff... sometimes those lyrics can be pretty dirty and/or violent, so those little kids listening to them have a lot to 'live up to'. (im not sure about that last part, its late). but anyways, the kids deinetely are influenced by rap music today. have luck with that, and may the force be with you..

Hey. I honestly do not think that rap lyrics play a role in children's behavior. Should they be listening to it, probably not. It is a little old for them. Do they actually understand everything in it? That is a little werid, because I don't understand half of it. Other tyoes of music could portray the same thing. I don't think it is rap. Rap is just another way like country to express your feelings or to tell a story. Let me know what you find out and I am sorry if my opinion didn't help too much.

I do not believe lyrics affect childrens behavior at all. I think that parents jus think that lyrics change their children's behavior because they are not good parents they do not know how to keep their children straight and keep them in order so they look for a scapegoat. and the nearest scapegoat is the music they hear everyday and it doesnt help that the people the kids are listening to are big "Gangters" either. But the thing that i find interesting is that most rap cds are not bought by blacks they are actually bought by whites i dunno i jus find that interesting.

lyrics definately have the potential to influence the thought process of impressional individuals. compare the music of the 70s when everyone was all into peace and love to today's rediculous lyrics. whatever happened to the good stuff? lots of rap music makes me very nervous... and the lyrics can be insulting and hard for me to listen to, let alone someone much younger than i.

First of all, I am glad that you were able to narrow your topic down (in previous posts you mentioned that you were having a bit of trouble)..I definately can't say that rap lyrics have a great effect on kids, but I think that if the kid(s) was listening to the music seriously and with interest, it might affect him. For example, if I was reading a poem about a topic that I cared about, I would probably be affected by it, while if the topic was something I had absolutely NO interest in, I would not think about the poem twice. If someone was just listening to rap music for the beat and not really paying attention to the words, it doesn't seem likely that it would affect him.
Also I feel that any music could affect people, whether it is rap, country etc..as long as the person is really listening to it seriously and with interest. I do think that some rap lyrics are rather disturbing, especially for younger kids.

A funny story: everytime I listen to rap, my dad yells at me and tells me that the main point of those songs is about raping and stealing (?) I don't know, I think that those songs affect our minds, and I can't catch those phrases anyway.

Hey man, I think that lyrics have lost the meaning that they once did. Some songs these days are nothing but swearing. If that is the point the artist is trying to show then that's one thing but if they are just in there to be there I don't think it's needed. I also think that sometimes swearing can make a person sound unintelligent. Just my thoughts. I think that if kids are listening to things that unappropriate it should be the parents responsiblity to control that.
