I just wanted to call everyone's attention to a comment posted by someone called 'Chris' in reply to my blog post "Halloween? Hmm.."...I just wanted to ask everyone in the class to read his rather rude (in my opinion) reply, and tell me what they think of it...is it just me or are some people just SO not able to handle the idea of a person having different beliefs to theirs?
I haven't paid attention to Chris' comment, but since Alia brought it up, I read it and was quite angry about it. First of all, who is Chris? I don't even know who that is. Second of all, he says that immigrants shouldn't complain about things such as christmas breaks, etc. What I don't understand is what he is thinking when he was writing it. "oh, you shouldn't complain, because you should Americanize yourself" I want to ask him where he is from. I am sure that his family that 500 years ago was American, they practiced crhristianity, and they spoke English. Yeah right. They all came from countries like Germany, Britain, France. If he wants to come to our class and debate the issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Don't hide it and write it in a comment, just say it out loud. Thanks for your time. Olzhas Toleu
Posted by: OIzhas Toleu at November 1, 2004 03:22 PMi think that chris had good points but stated them very poorly and gave no back up to his statements and was rather confusing at times. i think that if people are coming here to live then they should have to do some sort of americanizing because it is not fair to those who already live here to have to deal with all of their religious BS
Posted by: erin at November 1, 2004 05:48 PMWhat about American Christianity BS? There politics/religion mixing? Do you want to comment on that Erin?
Posted by: Everyone equal at November 1, 2004 06:45 PMokay wooo, chill out for a second, i dont think that ANY religion of ANY kind including christianity should be involved in politics, its not fair or right and just on a side note, i am not a christian so saying things like that doesnt really bother me, the problem that i have with people and their religions is that they cant just keep it to themselves and their fellow followers they have to shove it in my face and i dont appreciate that AT ALL!
Posted by: erin at November 1, 2004 08:07 PMOkay.......I would really like to know who this Chris person is, first of all! How can a human being that seems to have some intelligence, be so inconsiderate and dumb? By "dumb" i mean not intouch with reality at all. This person clearly lacks common sense and a sense of humanity and diversity. What makes our world what it is today, is precisely diversity, hereditary, tradtions, and so much more. It (the people, government, economy, education) relay on all of this to make each category what they are and what they can be. The U.S. has no right to eliminate and/or provoke a family of different beliefs to drop what they believe to join our beliefs or traditions. That is just complete nonsense to even think in those terms! Gosh, this really bothers me. Alia, I am sorry someone had the "balls" let alone heart to say this to you. Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there is a line that can be crossed. I wonder what Chris would have to say about other countries treating Americans like he wants us to treat others? He should think about things all the way before he says anything. This guy seems to be a racist in a way. I just read the article for 11/3 and he totally reminds me of someone being described as a racist. Does he not know that we as Americans adopt other orginalities into our country just as much or more as other countries?!?! Is this making any sense to anyone?
Posted by: palm tree at November 1, 2004 08:17 PMpalm tree, what you are saying makes very clear sense and i understand where you are coming from, i also agree with you about the stuff about chris possibley being a racist person, according to his blog, that is how it seems
Posted by: erin at November 1, 2004 08:31 PMPalm Tree, your comment definately makes sense, and I agree that "everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there is a line that can be crossed". Also, when you said that you "wonder what Chris would have to say about other countries treating Americans like he wants us to treat others?" is a point I mentioned in response to his comment on the other blog post...I was wondering the same thing myself.
