Checklist by Barry Deutsch

Hmm...this piece by Barry Deutsch is interesting in that it is written by
a man...you don't see many men who defend women and who degrade their own position as being on top (as some people put it)...I think Peggy McIntosh also mentioned that point in her checklist thing ...another neat thing I
noticed was that Barry Deutsch addresses possible refuting arguments before
his checklist. For example:

"Several critics have also argued that the list somehow victimizes women. I
disagree; pointing out problems is not the same as perpetuating them. It is
not a “victimizing” position to acknowledge that injustice exists; on the
contrary, without that acknowledgement it isn't possible to fight
injustice."

I think in addressing possible refuting arguments before the actual
checklist is pretty effective, and it shows that he has considered all
sides of the issue..The checklist itself was so true it was funny! I mean,
he just mentions things that sometimes people wouldn't even think twice
about like:

"31. I can be confident that the ordinary language of day-to-day existence
will always include my sex. "All men are created equal…," mailman,
chairman, freshman, he."

That was interesting....all in all I think it is a good piece, and it shows
the author's point of view clearly and persuasivley....
