DVD from Friday

I think the "Citizen Kang" DVD was really mostly about criticizing our voting system: both the government, and also the American public. For example, when they showed the two candidates (who were actually the aliens) giving speeches, one of them was saying: twirling, twirling toward freedom.....I think they are mocking famous slogans that presidential candidates often use in their speeches, and showing that a lot of candidates say good things that in reality do not always happen..Also, they were talking about how voting for a third party candidate is like "throwing away your vote", and this is bad because the two main parties are not always who people want to vote for (like my case!)... About criticism of the public: I think the DVD is trying to say that voters are too naive and gullible, by showing the candidate saying: No to abortion, then getting booed by the crowd..Abortion for all, and also getting booed...Abortion for some, and everybody cheers...or like when the candidates were saying that all voters want to hear are "bland pleasantries"...

I feel this short DVD is appealing to an audience for several reasons:

It is a story rather than a formal essay or speech, so it grabs your attention and is not boring. It is also entertaining at the same time as relaying a message to the audience. The use of humour also appeals to the audience and makes it easier to watch (would humour be pathos?). It is also short, and this is a GREAT way to appeal to an audience. When something is long, the audience usually tends to get bored and lose track of what you're saying, so I think that because it is short it is more effective than say, a formal speech by someone talking about the negative aspects of our voting system.
