this essay was good. i liked how it was very casual, just trying to get the point across. the part where Lamm says that the cultural standard of society is that fat is ugly, and that we should accept fat people the way they are, instead of telling them you know what they are going through, and understand them; but tell them to lose weight anyways. i liked how Lamm says that that is not the way to go about it. we need to accept fat people for not just who they are, but that they are fat, and they can be beautiful on the outside too, just like any thin people. i hate how society "brainwashes" us so much that the "thin" culture is embedded in our brains and we dont even realize it. i think if society would accept fat people, and not try to make them be thin all the time, our society would be much different. but im not sure if i would like it that way, because then no one would care who was fat and who wasnt (im really only concerned about the health problems that will come of this), and our society would become more and more unhealthy adn fatter. (at least, thats what i think so far.) i think lamm's style of writing is effective for her purposes, because it is casual, and says exactly what she wants it to say, she doesnt need big fancy words. and the profanity really gets you to sit up and take notice, because its not everyday that you see stuff like hers. yes, so i liked the essay.
I agree, I think that in the modern-day US, people shouldn't be embarassed of their looks, yet I think people should take precautions about taking care of their weight.
