Hey everyone! I just thought I'd write a quick response to the Lamm essay that we read quick before I go start some homework. I think that the article was completely refreshing. The fact of the matter is, no one comes out and says anything like that these days because people are too self conscious about what everyone else will think about them. I think people need to quit worrying so much about what everyone else thinks. The essay to me didn't necessarily portray to me the fact that being fat is this great thing. although she did make a very good argument towards that. To me it was more of an essay just arguing to be happy no matter what your faults are. Sure some people are bigger then others or some people have different sexual preferences or have bigger feet then someone. You can honestly go your entire life picking things out about yourself that make you unhappy, even if it's something as minor as your eyelashes not being long enough(yes i did have someone actually tell me they were up set about that!!) When I was growing up, i had a quite a few friends who had body image problems all of the time and went to extremes-like anorexia- to fix them. It always made me feel a little self conscious because these girls that i am friends with that are torturing themselves to be smaller were already smaller then i was! After a while of going through the emotions of maybe trying to better myself i realized that i was not going to be happy in life until i was happy with myself. It gave me a whole new outlook on things and at this point in my life i couldn't be happier! See you all in class!
