I don't know aout this president again

as of now people already know what has happen woth bush and Kerry, one of my main concerns is how it actualy happen I need somebody to explain to me how did bush when the election.

Now i'm am not a person that believe conspiracy theory but it is something very
fishy that every body always turns their back on bush or so they say but in return they elected this guy to be our president. People in college should take serious look at what has happen tuition has skyrocketed 20% and it will only get
worser. but I my self thought I did the right thing by voting for kerry and I thought out comes would be different but to each its own

Write Your Name in

The elections are coming up and I'm starting to feel as if I shouldn't vote. I think that India Arie should run for president, because she is a peaceful person. her music makes you see the world in a new light and it is very relaxing. Besides I can't stand George Bush, I totally disagree with all of his decisions. I mean, I'll admit that he is such a cute old man, and he does take care of his presidential business, but I don't like him.

Well, I don't like John Kerry either. He's one of the most hideous people I have ever seen in my life. That's not why I don't like him though. I don't like him, because he's so shady. I can tell that he is trying to hide something from us. What has the united States come to. Are these two guys the best that we have. Were in for trouble if we can't get anyone better than this. We have one guy who can't use words bigger than two syllables and a guy who looks like he just woke up from the dead. We have to put a stop for this. On November second when we go to vote, I'm writing my own name in.

Another observation on the Flash movie

I wanted to add another little comment on something I noticed in the Flash movie..at the end it shows both candidates singing "this land belongs to you and meeeee" I think that their singing together means that they are both headed in the same direction !!! Whether you vote for Kerry or for Bush you are going to get the same thing ....so that is like the main message this movie s trying to convey to the audience.

President bush Has been assinated

I have just heard on

Good Morning America that president Bush Has been asssignated at 10:20.

People reported that president bush was doing his routine jog in Washington

D.C, and Unexpectedly snipper shots were fired westard and struck him in his

adomen and spine. the report of his death was 11:30. he is morned by his wife

and children and entire country. it hurts to still Know that America can not come

together as a nation.

Off this reasoning alone people could throw out the facts and say that this is true, simply because of three things: ethos, pathos, logos. Credibility is given because we know that presidents have been assinated in this fashion before, Empathy, by using key words such as morn, or hurt. logic by giving specific times and dates that this innicedent happen.

If you beleive that the minute you read than imagine in the presidential debate what they can be feeding you that in is not true

NKOW YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING

This Land...whose land ??!!

I felt that this flash movie was trying to convey the message that both candidates are pretty ridiculous (no offense to their supporters)...they were showing some examples of the dumb arguments and accusations that Bush and Kerry use against each other to try and win public support...It seems that the movie makes fun of Kerry's ethos : Kerry is known for having three purple hearts which is considered ethos(credibility) and the movie makers constantly ridicule this fact. Kerry (in the movie) keeps saying "but I won three purple hearts"..they show him throwing a grenade from a boat in Vietnam and saying "I won them right"..The movie makers seem to be making fun of his 'heroism' and his credibility of having three purple hearts...Also the movie makers mock the logos that both candidates use in their campaigns. For example, ads against Sen. Kerry always seem to mention how Kerry can't "make up his mind" about various things like tax cuts etc...and the movie ridicules this showing Kerry holding a sign that keeps swinging with words like "Yes" and "No" and "Maybe".
I noticed that the movie used pathos when they showed a Native American man at the end of the movie saying "This was my land" and the voices answering him "But now its our land"...I think that this is using pathos to make the audience feel for the Native Americans and see how the candidates both just want the power.
Another use of pathos was using amusement to appeal to the audience..the whole movie was hilarious and extremely amusing to me..and I think most people who don't feel too strongly about either candidates would agree on that...the whole movie was making fun of both candidates, but to be a little more specific I would give this as an example of the use of amusement (pathos): The movie showed Kerry as a baby wearing a diaper and Bush saying "You're a liberal sissy", while Bush is shown leading tanks to battle with kerry calling him a "right wing nutjob"..In my opinion this is using pathos because it shows liberals and right wings from different points of view (liberals are sissy? right wings are nutjobs ??)..so this use of amusing pathos could influence the audience and make them look at the whole election campaigns in a totally different way.

Election Polls

To follow up on Meg's question in class today, I did some searching and, according to the Gallup poll, Bush and Kerry are tied, each with 49% of the vote. I also found PollingReport.com, which claims to be nonpartisan and displays results from many different polls: Newsweek, the L.A. Times, Fox News, etc.

A comment on the Thursday debate

In my political science class the professor asked us if the Thursday presidential debate had changed anyone's opinions on either or the candidate. I was one of the people who did not raise their hands. Rather than changing my opinion of the candidates, the Thursday debate just made me even more sure of my opinion that neither candidate is fit to be President of the United States. I felt that way from the beginning, and watching the debate just topped it off. I actually laughed at the two candidates standing there trying to answer the questions with answers that would get them more votes.
So I wanted to ask everyone if the debate has changed anyone's opinion on either of the candidates...did anyone who supported Bush prior to watching the debate now support Kerry (and vice versa) ??

Bush vs. Kerry

I just wanted to say that I find the presidential debate to be pretty annoying. All of the ad's between the candidates are bashing each other. I think it is immature and stupid that they bash each other like that when it is suppose to be a serious campaign and people are suppose to take it seriously. Also, like a lot of people in class, I'm not sure who I am going to vote for. I don't even think I'm registered yet. I also read both of the speeches Bush and Kerry gave. I found it hard to concentrate on the things they wanted to do with next four years because a lot of it had to do with them saying what the other candidate would do bad for the next four years. It just really turns me off when they point fingers and try to show why the other candidate is so bad. I like both of the candidates and if one of them never bashed the other candidate I would probably vote for that one. I dunno, hopefully I'll be able to find a better reason to vote for one of them by November 2nd and hopefully I'll register soon! Talk to you all later!

Lesser of two evils

Bush and Kerry are running for office for presidency, I feel that Bush and kerry are just the lesser of two evils both fighting for a position inflict their conflicting arguments on the nation. I personally don't agree with their comments. they are preaching something that they are not actually living. writers are the only
thing that seperates their lips from ours. I feel that they are to preachy about
there situation and try to bask on something and ride it until the wheels falls off
they don't even have thought of their own.

Bush vs. Kerry Speeches

Well first of all, was I the only one who noticed how much shorter Kerry's speech was than Bush's?? Not that it matters but Bush sure does like to talk! He he! Now that I'm finally done reading them, I'd like to consider the pros and cons I felt from each speech. As of right now, I do not know exactly who I am in support of so I feel I am at an advantage for comparing without including bias opinions. The thing that stood out the most from Bush's speech that I was not a big fan of what his constant use of the phrase "There is still work to be done..." He's had FOUR years to get work done and it's hard for me to believe that with FOUR more years, he'll accomplish so much more. Kerry's speech seemed to lack personal support for his campaign and focused alot on the negative about his 'competition'. I'm not too keen on the whole "bash the other candidate" approach as you may have noticed in my first blog on this topic, so that was a bit disappointing, whereas Bush discussed alot of his projected campaign reforms and was able to refrain from bashing Kerry in every paragraph. I am bothered by the differing numbers and factual information regarding current unemployment levels, availability of Medicare, etc. Bush makes it seem as though his presidency has caused great improvements in these areas where Kerry's numbers show that there was actually a downfall in these areas during Bush's presidency. I feel even though the information presented by each candidate is coming from the source first-hand, there are still many biases present which makes it difficult for a student like me to decide who to support. Will I ever be able to decide... hopefully before November 2nd!!

A Necessary Evil

In response to the prompt for the week ... there's so much that could be said about politics and the candidates, the whole election process and the state of the Country in general. What effects me most is the notion of how everyone picks a side and squares off against the opposing side. It's a sad tribute to human nature in that regard. Personally, I think politics are really all a bunch of acts, what people say and do doesn't necessarilly reflect what they truly believe and what they'll do down the road [in politics], it's usually an attempt to win approval, keep peace, or avoid criticisms. However, to dismiss the election saying 'oh well,' it's a bunch of crap, the world is messed up is a lazy way-out. People need to discover what they really believe and look at the candidates both open mindedly, not looking at political parties, and analyze the candidates for judge of character: sincerity, virtue, etc... and look at knowledge, competency, and experience. Ultimately, it's all about picking the lesser of two evils. There are lots of problems in the world and not one solution, but to quit trying to make sense of what's going on in the world around us is just pathetic. It's easier not to care.

will you vote???

to answer the questions asked of me. i've been following the election as closely as i can with out getting myself to caught up in all the mudslinging. the article about youth voting hit it's strong point when it properly stated that youth vote in lower numbers then adults and when it explained the history of youth voting. other than that nothing stands out in my head. i was rather annoyed by the article. i don't want a party to be thrown when i vote. i believe that we don't vote for a number of reasons. one of them being that we don't really recieve education on it like our grandparents did. but that is not nearly as big of a reason as the way politics are run now adays. the democrats and republicans run everything. this was not how our political system began and is not an ideal state for it. instead of working towards compromise, the democrats and republics fight and fight some more. if you ask me we need more people like john mccann. all the crap, mudslinging and lieing make me not want to vote!!!

i know that we, as an age group don't turn out to vote in very high numbers. i'll be voting in nov. because it's my civic duty and i know how lucky i am to have the chance to vote even if the canidates suck!! i think that if we as an age group had the time and knowledge we could easily change and make a difference in politics in this country. any other thoughts?

Bush against Bush

I think that it is very comical that people believe John Kerry is a "wishy washy" candidate. People say that he can't make up his mind when it comes to decision making, but it reality it is Bush who has the problem.
In Bushes address to Ohio, he made it very clear that doctors and patients should have a choice.
He states, "In all we do to improve health care in America, we will make sure the health decisions are made by doctors and patients, not by Washington, D.C. bureaucrats."
Well the reason that I find this hilarious is because he is also prolife. He is one of the people that want to make abortion illegal. If a bill was ever passed like this and made into law, it would be the bureaucrats who are telling doctors and patients what the cannot do. What decision would there be? To not have an abortion or to not have an abortion.
Basically my point is that Kerry isn't the only one who can't make up his mind. I'm not totally against Bush, because surprisingly he gets the job done. I don't agree with him and my vote will probably go somewhere else. And if Bush wins this election then he probably cheated again.

Bush vs. Kerry

After reading the speeches by both Bush and Kerry, I have a few comments to make. First of all, what really seemed to stand out in Kerry's speech was how much he mentioned Iraq. He kept talking about the $200 billion spent in Iraq, but Bush didnt really emphasize on that matter much in his speech. I think Kerry's speech would appeal to a lot more Americans because there are so many people who have lost loved ones in Iraq. There are so many Americans who are suffering from the pain of lost family and friends, and they dont want more Americans to have to suffer too. Kerry's speech might have a greater impact because he is talking about a matter which a lot of people want to hear about: bringing our troops home. While Bush makes great promises about increasing the quality of education in public schools, Kerry seems to focus on the matter concerning Americans most at this time (our troops in Iraq).
What kind of bugged me was how Kerry kept talking about what he would have done when it comes to Iraq. He keeps saying I would have done this, I would have done that. In my opinion, what's past is past and Kerry should emphasize what he will do about Iraq rather than bringing up what's done and past.
Another thing I noticed was that in Bush's speech the audience's reaction is written down like (Applause)..but not in Kerry's. I think that knowing how the audience reacted really affects the way you read the speech. Kerry's speech seemed kind of dull and not very impressive in comparison with Bush's because of the applauses, boos and cheers mentioned in the article on Bush's speech.

Fahrenheit 9 11

I am not sure if this is true for any of you, but I have a friend that is very democratic and just hates Bush. The thing that bothers me is that up until Fahrenheit 9 11 came to the theaters, this person was never actively involved in politcs. Now, he is so pro Kerry that if anyone brings up anything about the war or the election in general he will butcher the subject until you agree with his view point. My problem isn't that he supports Kerry rather that he bases his opinions solely on this movie. He takes what Michael Moore says as pure fact and fails to see the bias. He doesn't research the other side of the poltical argument. I don't care what side he supports so long as he is accurately informed of both sides. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

First Post about the Election assignment

I read the article by Jane Eisner, and I agree with some things she says...I really liked how she mentioned the fact that the election candidates don't really pay attention to young people's needs. I'm not saying that they should totally target young adults in their campaigns, what I'm saying is that they should at least address some of our concerns. In my opinion, a candidate who talks about increasing university and college scholarships for young people for example would definately appeal to me more than a candidate who ignores young adult's issues.
One thing I didnt agree with is her saying that people should knock on our doors and talk to us personally about voting. I hate having people kncoking on the door, it's pretty annoying and I don't think a lot of people would appreciate constantly having to open the door and stand there listening to someone talk about voting.
The article was pretty good though and it's nice to know that some people actually care about what us young adults think. It's interesting to see that our votes really do make a difference.

age of elections

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying this cloudy, sleepy day just as much as I am. Talk about wanting to curl up on a couch and watch a movie. Anyways...that is not what I am going to write about. I have been questioning myself on one specific thing to do with the election for quite sometime. It doesn't necessarily have to do with just the 2004 election, but all the elections in the past and future. I'll get right to it.
I think, or have been comtemplating, that the age limit for voting may be too young. Now I know that when you are 18 you are "offically" an adult. What does that exactly mean. We can make decisions on our own without our parents consent, blah, blah, blah. Are 18 year olds eligible to vote. I ask this just because since the election date is coming very soon, and I think of ome of my peers at my high school, I worry if their vote should really count. I am not saying that their opinion doesn't matter but after speaking with a couple of students who have just turned 18, it worries me how honest they will actually be come election day.
I spoke with two classmates that said they were voting for x because x had a nicer car than y. I personally have never seen x or y's automobiles, but does it really make a difference when it coems to who is going to be running our country?
Another example, I was speaking with someone who said they are very sick of the order of presidents and they want to spice it up a little bit. I guess the complain that the order was Bush, Clinton, Bush so now they want a Kerry thrown in there.
I shake my head wondering what percent of the new "adults" that are legally old enough to vote, actually think this way? I know that not everyone 18 plus thinks as low as that, but does the majority or the peple who do outway the majority of the people who don't? I hope I haven't offended anyone, because that is not my intent. Honestly I haven't met one person at the U of M that makes me question their right to vote. It is just previous people I have encountered that make me worry. I guess it doesn't even have to be new - comers to voting. I am sure there are some elgible people who have the same voting strategies that have been able to vote for years.
I'll get going, but if anyone has anything to say to this, please don't hold back.

Swing States

To follow up on the question Abby asked in class today on whether or not Ohio is a swing state, I looked it up and it seems that Ohio is not in fact a swing state. The New York Times classifies it as "Leaning Republican." It's a very important part of the rhetorical context of both speeches you're reading this week, so keep that in mind. Also, did you know there's an entire blog devoted to analyzing swing states in the 2004 election? Here it is: Swing State Project.
