Police arrested a northeastern Pennsylvania couple after a 7-year-old boy was found crying in a filthy basement where he claimed he was forced to sleep in a coffin.

The boy's mother Lori Gardner, 26, and his stepfather Brian Sleboda, 31, were arraigned on endangerment and unlawful restraint charges, reported the Star Tribune.

The boy told officers that he was sometimes tied up with duct tape and told that ghosts lived in the basement, reported WBFF FOX45.

Last week neighbors heard the boy crying and called police, reported WBFF FOX45. Upon their arrival the boy asked, "Are you here to help me?"

According to the Star Tribune, the bug-iridden home has been condemned, authorities said.
