A Minnesota State Trooper is expected to fully recover after being assaulted Saturday during a DWI arrest.

State Trooper Darcy Gagnon pulled over Elijah Lee Knowles, 26, at about 1:30 a.m. near Park Rapids, reported Valley News.

According to KARE 11, as Gagnon tried to handcuff Knowles, he resisted arrest and hit Gagnon in the head with her taser several times, Lt. Eric Roeske with the State Patrol said in a release.

Gagnon needed staples to close the wound to her head caused by the gun, reported Valley News.

When Hubbard County police arrived, Knowles led a high speed chase fleeing south on County Road 33 driving faster than 100 mph, but eventually crashed his car, reported Valley News.

According to KARE 11, Knowles was charged with nine counts including first degree assault. He is currently being held on $250,000 bail in Hubbard County.

Knowles' breathalyzer test showed a B.A.C. level of .143, reported KARE 11.
