Northfield Police Chief to Take Job in Kansas

Northfield Police Chief Gary Smith will be taking a job in Emporia Kansas according to the Star Tribune.

Smith met with Emporia City Manager Matt Zimmerman last Friday and called the meeting "productive" according to the Northfield News.

Smith took a medical leave of absence July 3 after holding a news conference that stated "150 to 250 young people were using heroin or a related narcotic," according to the Star Tribune.

Northfield Superintendendant Chris Richardson said there was a "considerable difference" between the school district's data and Smith's data according to the Star Tribune.
