If you are familiar with the cast Friends, you know that they all have very distinct personalities. You can clearly see who is high/low within all of the big five personality traits They are all very outgoing, don't mind talking to strangers, and enjoy being in groups of people. Joey is especially high because he will talk to any woman he finds attractive and likes the celebrity lifestyle with all the parties that comes along with his role in Days of our Lives. The next characteristic is agreeableness. Rachel is very high in agreeableness. She is always there for everyone when they need advice; she is an affectionate person and gets along very well with others. Monica is a good example of someone who is high in conscientiousness. She is very organized and pays close attention to detail. This is very prevalent in the fact that she is obsessive with cleanliness and everything has a certain place where it belongs. Ross is especially high in neuroticism. He is depressed a lot and having a not-so-ideal life. He is made fun of because of the fact he has had multiple failed marriages and got fired from his job because he over reacted to someone eating his sandwich. Phoebe is the one that comes to my mind when I think of openness to experience. She tries a lot of new and different things that most people wouldn't. She is very unconventional in the way she lives her life and is intellectually curious.

The link provided is an example of why I believe Ross is high in neuroticism.

I definitely agree on the identifications of the big five personality traits within each character in the show Friends. Learning about these traits has made me realize that television does this very frequently and on purpose for comic effect. The clashing of so many different strong personalities creates interesting dynamics and humor in situations that would, in the real world, probably cause annoyance and dislike instead. Most television shows, when analyzed for character traits, can be broken down into the same different persona, and I think it is interesting how effective that clashing of personality really is.

Now that you mentioned these traits among the Friend's cast and that we have learned the big 5, I see it in many movies, tv shows, and people. It's interesting too to tell people of these things and before you know it, they start acting a little differently and almost the opposite of what you told them. Unless of course, it was a good trait. But one time, I had actually told my friends that she's a little high on the neuroticism side because she has really bad mood swings and after that, she kinda stopped being moody all the time. The Friend's cast is a great way of putting the Big 5 to action, but just wondering one thing, what would Chandler's trait be?

I think you are spot on with your idenification of their personality traits. Since every single one of them is very high in a different personality trait, it makes the show as interesting and succesful as it is. People enjoy and are entertained by a tightnit group of people who's personalities are at a complete contrast. In reality though, I am not so sure that a group with such different personalities would work as well in real life. What I've noticed is that people with similar personalities tend to be the best friends. Although there are exceptions, I think that people tend to be better friends over time when they think the same and can relate to each other.

First of all, I love how you brought Friends into discussing personality. It is one of my favorite shows and the dynamic of the characters is something that most TV shows nowadays is lacking. I never really thought about how you can apply the big 5 to so many practical situations such as with TV shows. The big 5 might be one of the explanations of why this show was so successful. Each of the characters is very high in one of the traits which highlight their behaviors and attitudes throughout the series. For instance, if Phoebe wasn't was open to experience as she is, the show would probably lack some of its natural humor because her bizarre stories and story line are so unique.

Gotta love Friends right? Anyways, I really like how you gave everyone a distinct big five trait that is prevalent throughout the series. What I think is funny about this, is how even though everyone in Friends has these distinct character traits, they still mesh well socially. This is interesting because often times friend groups' personalities are very similar. I love watching different personalities come together. I think that they will either come together well, like in Friends, or really bad. I would personally like to see which big five traits go well together and which don't.

The difference in personalities among all of the cast members of Friends undoubtedly makes for an entertaining show! Like the above comment mentioned, groups of friends often have similar personality traits. Although the main characters in the show display a range of personalities, I think it can be agreed upon that they are all relatively high in extroversion with some characters evidently higher than others. I believe the clash of the differing personalities, however, makes for quite the interesting interactions between characters on the show.

First of all, I love this show and the fact that you have specific events/episodes to support your personality analysis on each character. I agree with the above comment that the variety in Big 5 traits really sets the stage for some of the events that take place throughout the show and provide quite the entertaining life for these 6 people. It is also funny to think that normally friends have similar personalities, but everyone on the show is very unique in character. The only friend you didn't mention however was Chandler. He's a hard one to pinpoint though, and I feel like he floats around a lot on different traits.
