        <![CDATA[<p>Previous Weeks Definition:<br />
The current economic and social times have created a lightning-paced lifestyle.  The workplace is no different.  Decisions are being made faster than they have ever been before.  Leaders need to understand the emerging issues and handle them quickly before more serious situations arise.  It is very hard to define the most important or effective leadership styles.  Traditional leadership models hold the leaders to be the most important person in a organization.  Servant leadership goes completely the other direction and says the group and community is the most important part.  The current model of society demands that leaders are very aware of current social conditions.  The cultural differences in todays society creates situations that need leaders to be more self-aware.  This self-awareness needs to be sans racial prejudice.  Komives describes the different types of group members and presents definitions and examples of each.  Being a leader it is important to understand the different participants that occur in both formal and informal groups.  Servant leadership also comes into play when deciphering each person's strengths and weaknesses.  Komives also presents the role of participative leadership.  <br />
Unlike a traditional leadership model where one individual has the responsibility and authority to decisions, participative leadership uses the group to make important decisions.</p>

<p>This Weeks Definition:   <br />
The reason many organizations chose leaders is because leaders will move the entity into a more desirable direction.  This week's reading focused on a model developed that helps measures the intentions of leaders.  While it is possible for individuals and organizations to move along with good intentions, it can become cumbersome and even detrimental to the overall health of the organization.  The Intentional Change Theory focuses on the process of learning from one's intentions.  It is important that leaders look at themselves from a different perspective to determine if the 'real self' is aligned with the 'goal self'.  Once they can find the differences between these two perspective, they can tweak and perfect it to better help the organization.</p>

Analysis:<br />
My understanding of this week's reading is that Boyatzis is trying to get leaders to better understand themselves before they make any decisions.  Boyatzis is trying to get the leaders to understand why he/she is making the choices they do, and then learn from them.</p>

Komives describes the different types of group members and presents definitions and examples of each.  Being a leader it is important to understand the different participants that occur in both formal and informal groups.  Servant leadership also comes into play when deciphering each person's strengths and weaknesses.  Komives also presents the role of participative leadership.  Unlike a traditional leadership model where one individual has the responsibility and authority to decisions, participative leadership uses the group to make important decisions.   </p>

<p><u> Analysis <u><br />
Komives presents some very interesting information in his article about the dynamics in the group environment.  It was very interesting to identify the task roles in groups that I have participated in my educational profession.  The idea of participative leadership is also an effective means for allowing people to help focus the decisions of the group in a more uniform fashion.</p>

The current model of society demands that leaders are very aware of current social conditions.  The cultural differences in todays society creates situations that need leaders to be more self-aware.  This self-awareness needs to be sans racial prejudice.  </p>

<p><u>Analysis</u><br />
The current society model indicated that the majority of people have an inclination towards white people.  The position of leaders needs to be that of anti-racial prejudicial.  According to Kezar, "Why should Whites who are advantaged by racism want to end the system of advantage?"  Without intervention by those in positions of power, the end of racism and racial prejudice won't end.</p>

This week's definition: <br />
It is very hard to define the most important or effective leadership styles.  Traditional leadership models hold the leaders to be the most important person in a organization.  Servant leadership goes completely the other direction and says the group and community is the most important part.</p>

<p>Analysis:<br />
I really enjoyed the article that Wheeler and Barbuto published regarding servant leadership.  This type of leadership puts the group and organization before the needs of the individual.  It also focuses on personal development and communal growth.  I think that it is important that leaders remember that without teammates, nothing would be possible.  I do really hope that servant leadership becomes more prevalent in the coming years.  My only concern is that many people don't think that servant leadership is assertive enough.  Traditional leadership roles are very contrary to what servant leadership stands for.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>Previous Week's Definition: Life is about choices, the same goes for leadership. Not everyone decision is going to be a black and white, right versus wrong choice. Kidder outlined some of the thought processes behind numerous scenarios that we all experience.   </p>

<p>This Week's Definition:  While the previous definitions of leadership still hold true.  Today's fast pace of life has created situations where leaders are making decisions much quicker than previous generations had to.  </p>

<p><br />
Analysis:  The previous week's definition of leadership outlined the right vs. right scenarios.  This week's article points out the fast-paced lifestyle that many in the business world live by now-a-days.  The situation of last weeks right vs. right situations gets even more complicated when the decision need to be made in split seconds.  While the current model of leadership isn't the most ideal.  Leaders will have to adapt to situations and move on to be successful.  </p>

People look to leaders for unwavering confidence in the mission/goal/objective they are collectively trying to complete.  If the leader's action are indecisive, it can negatively impact those who look to him/her for support.  Lee and King say "a desire for leadership must be part of a broader personal vision."  The leader must WANT to be a leader to positively effect those around them.</p>

<p>This weeks definition of leadership:  Life is about choices, the same goes for leadership.  Not everyone decision is going to be a black and white, right versus wrong choice.  Kidder outlined some of the thought processes behind numerous scenarios that we all experience.</p>

<p>Analysis:  I would like to clarify a mistake that was pointed out by Jude in my last blog post.  I stated that it was important for leaders to 'force' their values upon their subordinates.  This is entirely incorrect.  What I meant to say is that I feel it is important that subordinates view the leader as someone who very passionate about the tasks and responsibility.  The conundrums that Kidder explains show the complicated intricacies of decision-making.  The personal beliefs of each person will determine which decision is less hard to make.  Incorporating the previous weeks blog post, the way a leader handles each situation will also have an effect on the way he is perceived by his peers.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>My previous post on this blog had defined leadership as "Leadership is the ability to inspire to those who need inspiration..."  While this term can still be applied, my view on what it takes to be a leader has changed somewhat.  Not all people are the same, therefore not everyone can be lead the same way.  After reading Goleman's article on the most effective leadership styles, it is apparent that leaders need to be adaptive in the way they approach those around them.   Goleman said it best when he exclaimed "...the most effective<br />
leaders switch flexibly among the leadership styles as needed."  In conclusion, it is the responsibility of leader to understand the situation and present the most efficient and effective leadership style.</p>
