Endnote 8 or 9

Right on schedule, with the academic year just starting, Endnote has announced their annual integer upgrade that promises only minor new features (as I noted last year).

In a sign of how seriously the company takes its own product, they obviously recycled last year's press release, and forgot to change the HTML in the title.

Ugh! I've had the same thoughts about the ever-"evolving" EndNote. I've just upgraded my OS to WinXP and thought I'd have to plunk down $100 for the new version since I was having trouble getting the Cite While You Write to work in my old EndNote 6.0 version. Fortunately, I found excellent instructions on the EndNote web site for patching this problem. So, I've got a love-hate thing going on here. (And what's with the EndNote upgrade version being only $4 cheaper than a full version? Rip off!)

By the way, have you tried RefWorks, the free on-line citation manager advertised through the U of M libraries? I'm just wondering how it is in comparison to EndNote...
