On the yahoo web page I found an article on Libby and President Bush having his sentence commuted. Having a sentence commuted just means that Libby wont have to serve any prison time but will be a convicted felon. Democrats believe that if Bush wouldn't of commuted Libby he would have possibly fingered others on the Bush administration. Libby was on trial for leaking a CIA agents name to the public and lied about it to the FBI agents. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years by a judge after being found guilty by a jury of his peers.
Bush is defending his decision by saying that the 2 1/2 year sentence was to harsh of a punishment for leaking a CIA agents name and lying about it. Bush was also receiving phone calls from Libby supporters who wanted him pardoned by the president. Bush was avoiding people and never gave a definite answer on what he was going to do. But hours after Libby's appeal was denied by a federal appeals panel, Bush jumped in and commuted Libby of his sentence.
Politicians have their on views on why Bush decided on the commutation. Some democrats believe that Libby would have had to report to prison immediately, which could have possible sawed Libby to give up other White House officials names. Republicans say that these assumptions are far stretched.
A smilar article ran the New York Times.
