Hello from Limerick...and Goodbye

Hello from Limerick...and goodbye. And that's no joke.

We've only been here a day and will be checking out early in the a.m. The trip has been a whirlwind...and I'm a little disappointed with how ilttle I've been able to access a computer. But that just goes to show how much time we've spent on the road at sites or in a bus, getting motion sick from traveling 'round tight corners at a high speed.

Visited University of Limerick today and met with the country's most known researcher in our academic area. My hands were on fire I was taking notes so quickly. I missed about half of what he said, but truly the lecture was enough content to fill an entire semester. It was great.

Took a little time for the Cliffs of Moher. Remarkably, we've had great weather when we've needed it, though it was very windy there.

And as for the wrap up on Dublin? I'm not sure where to start. There are too many stories for the amount of time I've been allowed on this computer. So those will have to come later, for those interested.

I need to say goodbye from Limerick, as a classmate needs to use the system here. Happy weekend everyone and see most of you soon.

Ahh, we finally made it to an internet cafe in Dublin and I am finally able to make this work and get a decent connection without being timed out. Ironically, they're closing now and I sit down, only to discover that the interface for my blog has been upgraded in my absence. Well, nothing like that to keep a girl on her toes.

Since the computer guy is being VERY gracious with his time, here's a quick summary of what I've been up to. We met with one of the national union groups today and with the national workforce training group here. Very interesting...too much to share here. But the economy is very depressed, much more than in the U.S. More updates to come.

We are meeting with a Dean of a university tomorrow, and then with a researcher as well. Most of our meetings are a healthy hike from the hotel, so I've been getting my steps in!

As for fun, we've gone to the Abbey Theatre, the Guinness Factory, Trinity College for the Book of Kells, and then some. The pub crawl was great...the actors having a connection to the Guthrie, so it was fun talking to them.

It's been a whirl wind of a tour and we leave in only 2 more days...both of them packed to the brim with back to back schedules starting in the morning.

Two more days here and then on to Limerick!

Packed and Heading Out

Well, I'm packed and heading out the door. I've got books, snacks, umbrella, and hand-gel (and yes, it's in my Ziploc baggy). The only thing left to do is get my money exchanged at the airport. But with a 6 hour layover, I'm not sure I'll have time.

Kidding, of course.

Already Packed?

So I did the first-round packing thing a few days ago. And then, after staring at the stash of wearables for a few days, promptly removed about half of said items. We'll see what I wind up with.

The goal was to do a carry-on only, with one "small personal item". However, anyone who knows me well, knows that when I travel that "small personal item" is my favorite digital SLR camera. Small? Yes, by airline carry-on terms. Small to shlep around everywhere I go? Hardly. But I plan to leave my extra lenses at home.

Even though I have to bring work clothes AND casual clothes, that little device might make me have to check my bag into the abyss and subject them...once the unknown baggage claim land. Wish me luck.

Researching, Researching

Already I'm starting to conduct research on my's a great link to internet cafes in Dublin. I'll have to check them out!

I also just heard that this is a great link to use when checking out Dublin. Not sure how much free time I'll have, but it will be worth the perusal: Girls' Guide to the World

Getting Ready!

Well, I've got my outlet converters, my confirmation numbers, and airline ticket. I think I'm all set! My "roommate" and I are going to have lunch this week, so that we can compare notes on what to bring. No use both of us bringing hairdryers and the like, if we'll be together all week.

Now I just have to do the initial packing, to see what I'm missing. Only a week and a half to go!
