Cyberliteracy Intro., Chap. 1
I liked when the author said that the English language is changing. It is very true that email writing has become too casual and messy. I also liked the comment, "Nor are we inspired to protest or change the new technology" (7). I agree mostly because it is obvious that technological advancements have taken over the lifestyles of millions of people worldwide. It seems to me that technology has complete control over most of us. The use of the metaphor "superhighway" was intriguing because it describes the everyday rush that everyone seems to be caught up in as a result from different types of technology. I enjoyed how the author urges us readers to become more cyberliterate, and how the author explains the full meaning of cyberliteracy. I agree that people must not only be able to enjoy the technologies at hand, but also must be able to understand their faults. It was also interesting to hear about Walter Ong's comparison between cyberliteracy and both written and oral literacy. The ways in which the three types of literacy are intermingled make them relevant to everyone on earth.
