Purpose
To raise awareness among Lake Superior School District (LSSD) residents of the potential of and need for sustainability to be considered in all School District decisions. To work with residents and partners to identify and implement sustainability initiatives

Activities
Coordinate the efforts of a School Sustainability Committee to identify various sustainability
practices and technologies. Once identified, project feasibility was determined. If feasible,
potential funding sources were identified and included in a comprehensive project presentation
made to District administrators and school board members.
Outcomes
In the current edition of the LSSD publication, Good News About Our Good Schools,
Superintendent Sheldon Johnson has made replacing windows at Kelley High School
with new, energy efficient windows a funding priority. Another project to establish a
4kW PV demonstration project at Kelley High School and Minnehaha Elementary was
not acted on by the School Board based on a lack of complete outside funding.
