Northfield Area Climate Summit
Northfield hosted a community conversation about climate change, its impact on Minnesota, and steps available to create a more sustainable future. The Climate Summit was held Jan. 18, 2014, at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Northfield Climate Summit
Meteorologist Paul Douglas was the keynote speaker with a talk entitled, "Climate Change: Natural Cycle or Troubling Trend?" followed by a panel discussion and breakout sessions.
Erin Meier of the University of Minnesota SE Regional Sustainable Development Partnership along with Bruce Blair, owner of Welch Permaculture Gardens, presented at a breakout session titled, "Climate Change, Food and Local Agriculture." (See PDF - Project Files)
Members of the Northfield Area Sustainable Farming Association led a discussion about regional and statewide efforts to develop growing practices and ecologically-designed landscapes that can mediate extreme weather events.

In spite of a snowstorm February 15th, 2014, the Southeast Chapter of the Minnesota Sustainable Farming Association met in St. Charles. SFA began in the 1980s as a farmer-to-farmer education network, and has further expanded its goals.
