Healthy Food Alliance of SE MN

Our mission is to promote, educate, and advocate for healthy regional food. Since 2009, we’ve engaged over 30 community members in an ad hoc steering committee and study group for the SE Foodshed Planning Initiative, in the hopes of also developing a food system guidance body for the region. Around the same time, funding to SE counties via the Minnesota Department of Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) brought new partners to this work. In collaboration with regional public health leaders, we hosted a food systems workshop in December 2010, bringing local foods advocates together with public health and other community leaders. Workshop participants reached consensus that establishing a long-term, well-organized food system development agenda would benefit the region.
